Stuinboro Posted August 22, 2013 Report Posted August 22, 2013 Hi guys, Anyone interested in selling or know of a genuine Mexico or rs2000 up for sale in the near future. Preferably fully restored and mostly original spec but I wouldn't mind a minor bit of work! Cheers, Stu
Admin Vista Posted August 22, 2013 Admin Report Posted August 22, 2013 One at Brooklands auction and there are a couple on eBay http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C415137 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290954676411&clk_rvr_id=512939419258 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251317505508?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Stuinboro Posted August 23, 2013 Author Report Posted August 23, 2013 Thanks vista, much appreciated. I have seen the white RS on piston heads but I have never bought at auction and I'd prefer to drive it before buying. The cosworth is a little to modified for me and the Daytona yellow one is too nice for me to drive, I'd be petrified of chipping it!!! I really hope that doesn't sound fussy, I'd just love to buy one from a fellow enthusiast who has treasured it rather than a dealer trying to have my eyes out and not giving a damn about the car. If you hear or know of anyone please give me a shout though and I'll definitely owe you a pint or two, Cheers, Stu
Admin Vista Posted August 23, 2013 Admin Report Posted August 23, 2013 I'm not sure there is a cheap mk1 RS2000 anymore mate, even the ones needing work command good money. Any private owners of the really good ones would probably be asking close to what those dealers are looking for as it costs so much to get them like that in the first place, I know I'd want that sort of money for mine. Going back to one of your points though, the cosworth installed one isn't a turbo it's a NA one and you could probably swap out the YB head for a pinto one and gain some money on the deal by selling the YB head, carbs and ancillaries. Reinstate the servo and the engine bay would look much more standard. The rest of the car looks pretty standard with the exception of the strut tops and perhaps a bias box (going from the two bulkhead mounted pots). It's probably worth asking a few more questions to find out what else is modified about it.
Stuinboro Posted August 23, 2013 Author Report Posted August 23, 2013 Cheers for the heads up mate, I honestly don't know enough about the mechanics of a car than I ought to ! I totally understand where you are coming from with regards to price and I am under no illusion that I am not going to get what I want for less than 15k, I have just seen a few too many cars sell privately to see them re advertised for 3-7k more a few weeks/ months later. I know a cheap avo doesn't exist anymore but I would much rather give the guy who has put the blood sweat and tears into getting a car right the cash than a dealer profiteering on it. hope that makes some sort of sense, Stu
Admin Vista Posted August 23, 2013 Admin Report Posted August 23, 2013 Perfect sense mate. Good luck.
