Why does my Capri misfire when cold

Hiya, really hoping someone can shed some light

 

My Capri which has a 2.9 cosworth early engine misfires like a bastard when cold. If you put it into second and roll along slowly it jerks violently and does this in most gears. It was laid up for 2 years and I recently got it running again. You can drive through the miss and at about 2500-3000 it clears its throat and pulls well, any ideas on what to check/replace would help. Could it be crappy fuel in the line? Arching leads?

If its been laid up for 2 yrs

I'd give it a full service

New plugs

Leads

Dizzy cap

Rotor arm

Fuel filter and possible drain old fuel and fill with fresh

Oh yer I changed oil instantly, I think new plugs, leads and dizzy are next on list then cheers

Probably old fuel etc?

With the symptoms you describe, my money would be on a faulty cold start device / warm up regulator. Though I confess I have little knowledge of that particular engine so an only assuming it has such a feature.

With a cold engine, go and start it at night in the dark and watch for arcing leads..

The 2.9s eat plugs my uncles constantly did it if it wasnt ran for a decent time.

Being a complete numpty, which plugs do I want? I am searching but I can't tell if I am selecting the correct engine on the eurocarparts site. I also need the rotor arm
