i havnt seen a modded one for that sorta price, normally rally cars or rare RS models. would expect it to be up for more £25k and even then it be alot but i'd guess you would struggle to build it for less....yes its Type 49 but its not a special model, and its modded not restored with period mods sorta thing

I've seen his price criticised elsewhere too, but it really does cost that and more to build one of these to that standard, especially if you're using the services of a professional to get it there. Would I want one built to that standard or a twin cam / RS1600?..........that's a tough one too. The latter may be more widely desirable for historic reasons (and to accumulate value on) but they're also both fragile and temperamental, plus the BDA is frighteningly expensive to repair and neither will hold a candle to a cossied mk1 for driving thrills.

I know what you mean vista about costs of building a car and the fragility of the BDA etc but its not really a mega spec car, cossie turbo at 225 bhp and only a type 9 gearbox i would of thought for that money you would be looking at a big spec / power engine and sequential gearbox etc. it is undoutabley a well put together car and i would love to own it but it just seems a bit steep as it does not seem to stand out head and shoulders over all the other cossie powered MK1's out there.

Its not turbo it NA and only a little more than pinto power.

Yes the chassis and body work is pretty amazing but rolling shell i think wouldn't even be worth 20k.... and its only a 2 door export escort, twin cams RS1600 etc are that price because they are collectible and there is limited choice in the for sale market.

As Vista said least if u paid that sort of silly money for a twincam RS1600 it would be worth that or more in years to come..... i dont know if you would get your money back buying this and would sit on it for ages dropping the price to get it sold.
