I know of a Pinto with 205 block, alloy bellhousing, alloy sump, alloy vernier, 320 camshaft.

The head needs a complete strip and re-working. The bottom end needs the same, ie strip down and overhaul.

Should I buy it for £800, is it worth it??????

Head and pully £150

205 block £50

alloy sump £100 & alloy bellhousing £100

Thats about 400 quids worth, and thats why I said half.

If it needs rebuild its only worth what the parts are worth, unless there something specail about it.

That's the engine alright. :!:

I had Colin Ashton take it and strip it. I finally got to see it the other day when I went to MOT the Capri, and I was not very happy.

The tops of the pistons are covered in carbonised coke. It looks like a stanley blade or some other type of tool was then used to scrape some of the carbon off in order to read what the piston stamp size is.

The head has a lot of carbon build up inside and looks like the valve faces were given a once over with a wire brush.

As the head was removed in the past, the least that could have been done was to lap in the valves or give it some kind of a de-coke.

The head was painted silver and the spark plugs were even painted in the same silver paint

I feel I was overcharged by £400ish, judging by the prices on the previous page, for an engine that needs a complete strip down and proper rebuild.

They've said they are going to the Esher meet on Wednesday, so I'll have a chat with them then. I said to take the engine back and return the money, but I've been told the money has all been spent and "Sold as seen" was thrown into the conversation.

So I see what we can come up with.

Well I would be happy to come to some sort of arrangement, as there are a couple of items of use.

It looks like the real prob is with the previous engine builder. The chap I bought it from, bought it to be ran in their car of which they never did.

However, if I sold an engine to someone which I thought was a good one, and then it transpires that it's a pile of pooh, then I would certainly offer back a percentage of what was paid to me.

eg, if someone bought an engine from me for £700 and it's only worth £400, then I wouldn't hesitate to pay back £300 because that will have to be swallowed up in the rebuild of it

Sounds very fair to me mate.
