I know this is really odd to say but ive always thought a 940 2.3 4 cylinder red block volvo turbo engine would go well in a rwd old ford and you can easily get 250hp with no trouble and would be very cheap to do and the engines are bullit proof.

it would be cossie power for alot less money and its a stronger engine aswell

Apparently a good engine but never tried one,but I agree there's some big power ones across the water

The redblocks are good for huge power but a little thin on the ground. A friend has an ST170 engine in his mark 1 escort with a turbo on the side, running about 350bhp and runs 12's at the pod on road tyres and a rather ropey type 9 box! It's a rocket ship and has cost a lot less than a YBT would for the same power.

Personally i am going Pinto Turbo, nice torque curve from only 8 valves and hopelfully should see aboutt the same power circa 300= bhp.

That's the point I was making regards to it being overpriced. You can pick up comparable, better engineered engines from other manufactures for buttons in comparison to a YB. There's no denying they're great engines, but to get a 2nd hand YB bought, rebuilt, and upgraded to over 300hp you're looking at a couple of grand minimum.

I went a different route, and fitted a Saab B204!

Standard internals good for 400hp. No cams, crank, rods, pistons or headwork. All it needs is more air and fuel to achieve that.

My dad had a 760 turbo volvo when i as younger it went like stink then my mate brought a 940 recently and for 250 quid he fittwd a 850 t5 turbo fuel pressure regulator and a bigger actuator bigger injectors now hes running around 250hp th car weighs 1400kg and it feels very rapid so imagine that power and torque in a mk1/mk2 escort that weighs around 850-950kg ish

It's not been easy! I've had to fabricate loads of stuff, custom x member, mounts, bellhousing, sump, intake, exhaust, clutch, oil system, cooling system etc.

Just got a few coolant pipes to fit and plug leads to make, then it's off to get mapped. Looking at 300hp and over 400 ft/lb of torque. The RS is totally stripped out with Lexan windows, so should be nippy enough!!!!

Oh, it's from a 1999 Saab 9-3 turbo, bought the engine complete and delivered for £250, all she needed was new shells. Admittedly, the whole project has probably cost me more than a straight forward cossie transplant, but I have something original, and should i need more power, I just wind up the boost and tweak the map. happy days!

Have a look on some of the Saab forums and see some of the crazy power these guys are making, unbelievable stuff.

Thanks D Fens, just wanted to do something different. It's getting a trick back axle too, should be a great alternative to the old (and expensive) Atlas.

Getting a mag feature sometime next year, and i'm really looking forward to seeing it on the cover.

makes it all worthwhile, knowing some people can appreciate the work i've put into it.
