mk2 mike Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 It's driving me frickin' nuts ! I've got a pair of cobra Monaco bucket seats and as I didn't want to drill holes in the floor I bought some 'adaption' bars so I can use the original frames. I've tried about half a dozen times now but just can't get them to fit. The supplier confirms they're the right ones and after endless emails and phone calls I'm no closer to sorting it. The problem is once bolted on they're just too far apart. (By an inch or so ) for the original frames to fit. A pic of the bars fitted. And with the original runners. With one hole lined up you can see how far off they are. (Bottom of pic). Am I just being really dense and missing something? I'm bored of removing and refitting the seats for no reason now lol. I don't have the materials or tools to make my own brackets. Has anyone used them who can shed some light? The supplier has given up now. They just day they're the right ones and that's that. What d'ya reckon?
over_head_cam Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Silly question Mike, would the bars fit lengthways? 1
mk2 mike Posted October 24, 2013 Author Report Posted October 24, 2013 No phil I tried that. The holes in the bars won't line up with the threaded holes in the seats. Plus then they're too narrow for the runners to bolt to the floor. Also the supplier said they fit the way in the pics.
Admin Vista Posted October 24, 2013 Admin Report Posted October 24, 2013 Have you sent the supplier those pics and asked them what the problem is? I'm with you, they don't fit
over_head_cam Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Just looking at the pic Mike, they don't look like Mk2 Escort runners, or are the 'tag' or brackets part of the kit? 1
mk2 mike Posted October 24, 2013 Author Report Posted October 24, 2013 Scott I've sent the pics above to the supplier and they said they've never had the problem before and can't work out why they don't fit! Phil by tag do you mean the bolt holes from the side of the frames? I assumed they were mk2 escort as they came with my car attached to the fishnet seats. They bolt in perfectly but I've no idea about the way they attach to the seat base itself. If they came from another car it could explain the problem? Just my luck lol
mk2 mike Posted October 24, 2013 Author Report Posted October 24, 2013 Edit: Phil I think you're spot on. From google- Mk2 escort seat runners: CAPRI 2.8 runners Think I have capri seats (or at least runners) in my car. I don't have the cross bracing on my seats but the mounting holes in the second pic is definitely what I have. Bugger. :0(
over_head_cam Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Yeah, those bits I might be wrong (often) but they don't look right Another silly question, have you pulled the seat material back to see if there's any more bolt holes in the bottom of the seat? 1
Admin Vista Posted October 24, 2013 Admin Report Posted October 24, 2013 At least you know what the issue is now. A set of mk2 runners shouldn't be hard to source from GS Escorts 1
mk2 mike Posted October 24, 2013 Author Report Posted October 24, 2013 Phil I did try that, praying I'd find more threaded holes lol. As Scott just said I think we now know the problem. Just need either mk2 escort runners or adaption bars for a capri! By the way Phillip old chap, how much of an anorak are you, knowing what mk2 runners are like? Lol As always, thanks for your help chaps. You've solved a headache for me! This forum rocks! 1
over_head_cam Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 I'm not an anorak Mike. I'm a Martian! Anytime m8 1
mk2 mike Posted October 24, 2013 Author Report Posted October 24, 2013 Whatever you are mate I'm glad you're in the forum! Think I need to make an apologetic phone call to the supplier in the morning.
SmokeEm Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Phil is an anorak BUT he is a miserable old git 1st n foremost!
Mgentry90 Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Just to say mate, the capri runners are also fitted wrong to seat. They should be the other way round.. They are a "z" shape (if you know what I mean) because when mounted on capri seat they have to sit over a bulge. Get me?? So try mounting them the right way on the seat and you will lose that inch gap.
Mgentry90 Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 If needed, message me and I'll send you pictures of the Cappa seat in my kitchen.
Mgentry90 Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Sorry to Spam, looking at the runners in pic, A: they don't look too Cappa like. And B: as I previously said they still wrong way round. In the pic with you fitting it, you can see the way its like a step to fit over the material covered hump on base of seat.

I think I have capri seats. I don't really get what you mean about 'fit them the other way' but if you have pics if your seat that might make it clearer for me. Thanks mate!
mk2 mike Posted October 25, 2013 Author Report Posted October 25, 2013 Got some 'proper' escort runners winging their way thanks to escort tec! Problem (hopefully) solved.
SmokeEm Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 Its a learning curve Mike. Went through same hassles 20 yrs ago. There is always an easier option.
