Brembo vs Tarox

Looking to get a set of solid brake discs but wanted something with a reputable name. I had a new set of Chinese made ones thinking they are just plain solid discs there cant be much difference between them. Was driving a bit of a twisty road but was by no means hard on the brakes came round a bend that then made a sudden dip down to cross a weir with a few inches of water across it. Bit of steam and warped discs! Ive driven through deeper before even crossed creeks and thats my only warped disc in decades. The Brembo just look like OE Rotors while the Tarox look a bit more technology went into them but not sure if the G88s are overly noisy with its many radial grooves. The Brembos are cheaper but postage is the killer either way to Australia so once you add that in there is only 20 pounds or so difference in price. What to oldskoolers use for original solids or do you guys just use the cheapies with no benefit to the named brands?

I think the pads were a little it u didn't copperslip the backs but nothing I noticed

Resurrecting this thread a bit. Some new Type16 Callipers and solid Tarox G88 Discs arrived from the UK, was going to fit them to the Twincam but I have been having problems bleeding the Princess Calipers on the Mk2 which have always felt a bit mushy since i fitted them. They are supposed to be better than the standard type 16 but for some reason they dont give me the same confidence as standard. I do find it hard to bleed them with double nipples. I once tried the usual capri vented discs with the standard calipers but found that with the spacer kit they seems to flex and create a mushiness all their own. When the new calipers and Tarox arrived I just thought maybe I should just pop them onto the Mk2 and be done with the notion of getting better breaking out of the Princess Calipers. They were a very close fit under 13in wheels which bothers me a bit. So the question is, is going back to solid discs (Even though Tarox claim better heat dissipation) a real backward step? Any opinions would be helpful.

Well they were originally purchased for my Twincam to keep it as original as possible and the G88 Tarox seemed a bit better than the average solid discs that you can get. With both cars just being for the road I have never cooked the disks so there was no real advantage to going to vented. Although quite a while ago I did try vented discs for the Mk2 when it seemed like the upgrade everyone did  but found with the spacer kit they went slightly mushy as the calipers flexed so stuck with solids until I tried the Princess Calipers and that mushiness returned, although I think its through my inability to bleed them properly rather than the calipers flexing this time. When the new Tarox discs arrived they seem pretty good and thought maybe try them on the Mk2 instead, with either the new set of type16 calipers or maybe eve a Hi Spec Billet 4 caliper? Its a bit of a swap and change fest I know but its one area I dont feel comfortable just sticking with when it doesnt seem to feel right.

Are vented disks really necessary? I mean everyone seems to whack on a set, but surley a decent set of solids like the tarox set which have been designed for superior cooling should be just fine unless you're hammering around a track all day?

 

Surley the extra weight from the vented aren't really worth it either considering it's probably not necessary?

I agree Charlie, that was my reasoning for going for the Tarox for the Twincam, however when they arrived it just occurred why not try them out on my Mk2 and if satisfied get another set for the Twincam. Feel guilty backtracking though after spending good money on the Princess setup but wouldnt be the first time spent good money only to change my mind!
