Wiring Question

I found myself watching a Wheeler Dealers for some reason over the weekend and your man China was fitting a new wiring loom to whatever car they were working on. Anyway this loom was made up on a board before being sleeved with the tubular mesh type sheathing (sorry, don't know what the proper name for it is) and the ends had yellow or white labels heat shrunk onto them next to the proper modern type connectors.

 

So my question is, where can you get these labels and connectors from ? I've done a quick Google for them and found loads of places for automotive wiring but non that do wiring labels.

RS Components, but you need a label printer too.

Might be worth searching for some vinyl type of printing paper and running some off a standard printer.

What u want is a Dymo Rhino machine. I've got one and its ace. Will even print onto heat shrink!

I'm currently looking at doing an engine loom for my Zetec / DTA install and i'm in two minds whether to just use wire colour or go single colour and labelling. Any good printer should be able to generate passable text on paper which are then encased in the clear heatshrink. They only really need to be read once or twice as unlike a race car / bike the connections aren't being stripped and remade lots of times in a season. The multicolour wiring is clear and concise but a bit costly ordering 30 different colours x 2m lengths! Plus fault finding / tracing in a multi-colour loom is a damn sight easier than in a 30 wire bundle of white ones!

^^^ agreed, however my dymo rhino wasn't expensive and the labels it produces are oil, petrol and just about anything resistant. I find i use it for loads around the home and work too

I just used a spread sheet and wrote all the different items in the boxes and printed it off. Then cut out the words and slide a piece of clear heatshrink over the wire and the paper cut out inside and shrink the tube
