johnny_h Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 Finally started the mex and billows of stinky white smoke filled the garage. I don't know what this means. I'm guessing it's fooked. If anyone is local and knows more than me can you pop round and turn the key?
RFChris Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 Steady now! I wouldn;t go as far as fooked! When was the last time it was run? Have you let it get up to normal temp yet, and if so does the smoke continue? Chris
johnny_h Posted September 23, 2006 Author Report Posted September 23, 2006 Not sure when it was last run because it was seperate from the car when I bought it. When I first started it, cleared after about 10 mins. I left it for about 2 hours and went back to try again and it blew out a shit load more. I'm talking thick clouds too. And it made a horrible rattelly sound under high revs which went away also. I was topping up the brake n clutch fluid coz some came out of the carb when i tried to bleed them.
Onyx Dave Posted September 23, 2006 Report Posted September 23, 2006 Brake fluid came out of the carb? If this happend has your car got a remote servo because if it has it requires a rebuild and thats why its smoking because its burning brake fluid.
Awesome Al Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Dis the vac pipe from inlet, & try again then? But sounds bizzar to me?
johnny_h Posted September 24, 2006 Author Report Posted September 24, 2006 I'll give that a go today. Cheers.
Onyx Dave Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 If the diaphragm in the servo has gone the brake fluid is sucked up to the carb through the vac pipe, has happened to m8 before.
mr zefect Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 I had the same prob on my v6 mk 2 van, brakes went spongey and there was white smoke coming out the back there was a hole in the diaphragm and it was sucking brake fluid into the inlet.
johnny_h Posted September 24, 2006 Author Report Posted September 24, 2006 If i disconect the vac pipe it shouldn't affect the engine running no? Do I need to block the inlet union on the manifold?
Onyx Dave Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Yes block off the union on the inlet or the engine will not run or run very badly.
johnny_h Posted September 24, 2006 Author Report Posted September 24, 2006 Cheers, just waiting for my breakfast and i'll get on it!
johnny_h Posted September 24, 2006 Author Report Posted September 24, 2006 YES! Blocked off the inlet and the hose from the servo and no more smoke! Cheers guys. I think i'll bypass the servo as I hear they aint really needed. Now I just need to figure out how to get the engine to tick over without having to pump the throttle all the time. Getting there!
Onyx Dave Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Nice one, get the carb off and give a good clean out, dont forget to take out the jets and blow them through.
johnny_h Posted September 24, 2006 Author Report Posted September 24, 2006 Nice one, get the carb off and give a good clean out, dont forget to take out the jets and blow them through. They are twin 40's and they were done recently. Here's a vid of the red light coming on and rev counter not working properly. Why it's upside down I have no idea
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Just a thought mate, are all your earths ok. Check & clean Battery to Body, and Body To Engine earths. Obviously, any body earths must be made metal to metal, so just scrape off enough paint (don't go to mad) then tighten them up and apply a layer of grease over the top!!!
