I've noticed even the prices of mk1 fiesta's are starting to climb, which isn't much of a prob as already have mine, but my plans of buying a mk2 escort are looking a bit more out of reach

The rise in prices is a good thing in many ways, it means cars are worth more so people put more money into them and because values are rising then more are saved.

 

People are more inclined to put £4,000 in to a rotten escort because they know it will be worth more than that done.

 

The quality of cars on the scene just gets better and better, which is a good thing.

 

More people see nicer and nicer cars and become inspired to build better and better cars which is a good thing.

 

Because there is money in things businesses are more inclined to develop products to improve cars.. which is a good thing.

 

 

 

As for old Fords being a working class thing... yes they were of the late 70's and early 80's when things like MkI & MkII Escorts were bangers to most people, all my mates ran them because thats all they could afford and they werent special cars they took to shows and meets, they were cars they drove to work every day.

 

Time has moved on... The 'Bangers' of today are MkI Mondeos and the likes.

 

 

Some peope insist on living in the past... 'Oh my dad bought an Anglia for £200 minter it was... now I want to buy one for £200'

 

Well the £200 your old man paid for something 20 or 30 years ago equates to a lot more these days.

 

 

And why do people want to blame e-bay for this ?

 

You dont blame Auto Trader or the local press... all e-bay is, is a mechanism to advertise cars and spares, nothing else, there isnt a group of americans at E-Bay HQ deliberately driving up the prices of things.

 

They people driving up prices are the other people on this board, the people you stand next to at meets.....

 

All E-bay has done is given more people access to the same things, instead of something appearing in the local free ads and two people in a town ringing up about it, theres now 50 people all over the country looking at the item.

 

And because the whole scene has got more popular its simple economics, the law of supply and demand, there ain't enough to go round to satisfy the current market.

 

 

 

 

So please... stop trying to say old Fords are a working class thing and that they should all be £500 like they were 5 years ago because £500 for a motor is not working class, its fresh of the plane from Poland.

 

 

 

Apologies for the rant but this is something that bothers me....

We were chatting at AutoSport Int looking at the MK1 RS1600 which cost £125,000 to BUILD. My mate thought it was madness until it was compared with building a WRC Evo or Scooby to be as competitive in their class. It looked good value then!
