Hiya...

I drive a Mk3 Cortina (1971) which I've owned since 2001, and also have a Mk1 Transit van (1968) which has been with the restorers for the last 4 years (not getting restored very quickly, obviously). I've also just bought a Mk1 Escort because I miss having one - the family just didn't feel complete!  She does need a bit of TLC to get her on the road though, and I'm hoping to get some advice on here. Like, if I want to fit a 5-speed box, does it need to be a Type 9 (like the one that's in my Cortina), or is there a better solution? I was really interested to read the thread on rear window rubbers - I too have a leaky rear window! :D :D..... :/ ...and now I know what to do!

I've also joined in the hope of actually meeting some other Ford nuts in my local(ish) area. It would be great to meet up for a drink and a chat sometimes, not just at the shows. The winter is so boring...

So please talk to me - I'm a bit mad but quite nice.

Welcome to OSF

Yes, the Type 9 is also the easiest 5 speed gearbox to fit in a mk 1 Escort. If you do a search in the Technical rooms or "How to" room, there should be more information on it

Thank you all for your warm greetings! It's just what you need this time of year :)

Am looking forward you meeting some of you in person. In the meantime I have my new Escort for company - she's taking shape.....! ;)
