mk1luvva Posted January 4, 2015 Report Posted January 4, 2015 What's the best primer to use straight onto bare metal. Acid etch or Weld thru Zinc. Also is it ok to seam seal joins etc after first coat of primer or before. Thanks
Ray Posted January 4, 2015 Report Posted January 4, 2015 acid etch for corrosion resistance, not sure it makes a lot of difference seam seling befor or after, as you will still have to primer over the sealer on final spraying, but my personal thing would be to acid etch prime first
The Transplanter Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 Epoxy primer is better than single pack acid/self etch primers. But for DIY use etch is easier to use Body filler can be used over epoxy but should not be used over etch. Epoxy/Etch BEFORE seam sealing, then prime with a std surface/high build primer People confuse epoxy & etch primers with std filler primers. They are completely different and surface primers should always be used over epoxy & etch primers So: 1. Epoxy/Etch 2. Seam seal 3. Surface Primer 4. Paint Cheers Al 1
