mk2 mike Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 I'm ordering a new screen for my car and trying to determine if my glass has a green tint or if it's clear. Sounds a silly question but how green is a green tint? I put a piece of paper behind but still can't work it out. The paper did look slightly darker but not as visibly green as the glass in my daily (which IS tinted). Should it be a noticeably darker tint or is it a subtle tint? My car is a 79 GL but I don't know if tinted glass was an option or standard on those. Anyone know?
Craig89 Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 As far as I'm aware it was only the side and rear glass that was tinted. My mk2 rs2000 has green tint all round except the front which is clear, admittedly the front screen has been replaced. I don't see the sense in tinting the windscreen 1
mk2 mike Posted February 1, 2015 Author Report Posted February 1, 2015 Thanks. The clear screens are double the price of the tinted. I'm not fussed about the price but not sure what a mis matched set of glass will look like!
Craig89 Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 Are you unsure whether you have tinted glass all round or just the screen?
Admin Vista Posted February 1, 2015 Admin Report Posted February 1, 2015 If you want to spend extra money on a screen Mike, go for a heated screen. Excellent for de-misting
mk2 mike Posted February 1, 2015 Author Report Posted February 1, 2015 I can't tell if ANY of it is tinted. I just want the screen to match the sides. My OCD won't cope with having a clear screen with green side glass or vice versa. Trouble is its in s dark garage at the moment and immobile so I can't drag it out in to the daylight to check. I think looking at these pics the glass is clear rather than tinted. Scott, I'm potentially going for the heated screen once I've decided on the tint. Although I never drive it in the wet/cold and can't ever remember the screen steaming up. I generally only drive it in weather I can drive with the windows down.
Craig89 Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 It's very hard to tell, here is a picture of mine, you can just about distinguish the difference between the white on the outside and the white through the glass 1
irishtorag Posted February 1, 2015 Report Posted February 1, 2015 mike it should have a g or b in the etching of the glass to denote colour if my memory serves me right 1

G for green and B for bugger all tint I take it? Craige that's the problem I'm having big it IS tinted it's very slight.
