Chris standage Posted April 13, 2015 Report Posted April 13, 2015 After buying slipper springs and finding out you need to 4link the rear axle, I don't want to do that, can someone give me a list of everything I'd need and how to fit mk2 leaf springs, don't want to waste more time getting incorrect bits, would be appreciated.
seaneylad Posted April 13, 2015 Report Posted April 13, 2015 After buying slipper springs and finding out you need to 4link the rear axle, I don't want to do that, can someone give me a list of everything I'd need and how to fit mk2 leaf springs, don't want to waste more time getting incorrect bits, would be appreciated. I ordered single leaf springs 146lb for the mk2 from Burton Power. I orded the mk2 rear leaf springs hangers with poly bush from eBay Then used the grinder to knock 5m of each side of the leaf (not as bad as it sounds) that goes in into the chasis mount, as the leafs are 10mm to wide. (also orderedd poly for his point also) ... also had to buy poly saddles to fit due to width Apart from that they just slot into place ps. while i was there i removed my -2Inch lowering blocks and had them decambered 2" then got shorter gaz shocks (instead of avo shocks) ... and it sits like this: (Wouldnt mind going lower again ... thats another job for another day) Hope that helps
Paulfosk Posted April 13, 2015 Report Posted April 13, 2015 As above Chris but don't fit the poly slippers they're a waste of space, I kept the blocks instead of decambering sits lovely 1
seaneylad Posted April 13, 2015 Report Posted April 13, 2015 Poly Saddles: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MK2-Ford-Escort-Rear-Spring-Mounting-Pads-in-Poly-/370694034391?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item564f1613d7 60mm wide leaf's http://www.burtonpower.com/single-leaf-spring-146lbs-mk2-escort-60mm-wide-ls230.html mk2 Leaf spring hanger http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=15457Just need the poly for each of leaf springs then. Just some examples think thats the ones i ordered, possibly cheaper elsewhere, i cut down my U bolts as without blocks they didnt fit well, but if you keep lowering blocks youll be fine
Chris standage Posted April 13, 2015 Author Report Posted April 13, 2015 Cheers for all the info, I'll get my bits ordered up soon, just got to find time to get back down south to my car to get it finished now, cheers

dalmarshall Posted April 13, 2015 Report Posted April 13, 2015 Serious question.......what's the advantage of fitting single leafs over the standard multi leafs?
seaneylad Posted April 13, 2015 Report Posted April 13, 2015 Serious question.......what's the advantage of fitting single leafs over the standard multi leafs? When i was looking this is what i was told: (how true they all are i dont know) ... since i fitted mine and decambered them and adjuatable shocks drives much better, next on my list is anti tramp bars and itll be perfect for me, road use and occasional little track day. Single leafs handle better than multi leafs Cheaper to de camber a single than a multileaf set They look better Multis are 3x the price to replace if needed They are ligther if you snap one youll know about it 1
John escort mk1V6 Posted April 13, 2015 Report Posted April 13, 2015 What i have done to fit the 60mm leafsprings is at the frontside cut out a thin piece of metal and the pushed out the ears with bodyshop tool. And under tention i did use a hammer to make the ears/leaf mountings straight. Also i weld it here and the and also i filled up the gap between the chassis rail and ears/leaf mounthing section with skid plate`s. You also can remove the ears/leaf mountings and fit them from a mk2. And i fited the stronger straight hangers with poly bushes.
Chris standage Posted April 13, 2015 Author Report Posted April 13, 2015 Cheers mark, cheers again for all the info, it's about time I got it back on the road, even though the mot is due this month 1
