2litreScapri Posted December 22, 2015 Report Posted December 22, 2015 Taken the plunge and bought a Mk2 Escort yesterday as a project. Loved the journey back but it needs a bit of work. Main thing is the sump gasket leaks like buggery. The previous owner sealed it as best as poss for a temporary fix but needs changing. Is it an easy fix to lift the engine up a bit & work around the crossmember? Any advice greatly received. CheeRS

CheeRS Unfortunately it's a engine out job, had to change my sump gasket last month, there's 2bolts at the back of the sump that are impossible to get to as the bell housing was in the way, either way it's not a huge job, can be out and back in, in a hour with a helping hand
iandq Posted December 24, 2015 Report Posted December 24, 2015 I would remove the engine, and whilst out do the gasket, front and rear seals, clean the sump out and replace the clutch if it's looking worn, 1/2 a days work with a hired or borrowed engine hoist. merry Christmas, ian.
