escortmad79 Posted January 6, 2016 Report Posted January 6, 2016 Bronze Mk3 Cortina 1300L, HCR296L, Camberwell 05/01/16 Bronze 4 door mk3 Cortina 1300L reg no. HCR296L was stolen from outside the owner’s house in Camberwell overnight on 4th/5th January 2016. The car is completely standard & has unusual round mirrors mounted on the front wings.
escortmad79 Posted January 7, 2016 Author Report Posted January 7, 2016 The car has tan seats which is badly ripped on the drivers side, passenger seat belt does not click correctly, it has a black carpet, old school Motorola radio, broken aerial, yellow parking permit saying Ely Place in window, blue internal suspension & two tyres that constantly need pumping up!
mk2 mike Posted January 7, 2016 Report Posted January 7, 2016 There's a cortina only banger meeting coming up, and about 6 cortinas have been stolen since December. Coincidence? Just saying....
buzzard Posted January 7, 2016 Report Posted January 7, 2016 Yes it's getting scary . I've started sleeping with one eye open
ianb10 Posted January 7, 2016 Report Posted January 7, 2016 Oh that is sad that some one has stolen it just to go banger racing in it, They want stringing up by the gonads.
Danish Posted January 7, 2016 Report Posted January 7, 2016 There's a cortina only banger meeting coming up, and about 6 cortinas have been stolen since December. Coincidence? Just saying.... This was posted on the BSC forum yesterday. Red dot is the banger meet, blue dots are stolen Cortinas. Could be co-incidence of course... 2
mk2 mike Posted January 9, 2016 Report Posted January 9, 2016 The cortinas known to be stolen recently.
escortmad79 Posted January 10, 2016 Author Report Posted January 10, 2016 Plus two that weren't reported on social media which I'm trying to find info on & another one stolen in the early hours of this morning!NINE Cortina's in under a year!
psmk2 Posted January 12, 2016 Report Posted January 12, 2016 Can you not turn up at the cortina meet with the police and check all the tinas Also how do they know where these cortinas are?....classic fords are like needles in haystacks with the amount of modern cars on the roads.....do any of you guys attend the same meets?
mk2 mike Posted January 12, 2016 Report Posted January 12, 2016 Police unfortunately don't have the time or resources to check things like banger meets. It might be someone's pride and joy but at the end of the day it's just an insured car. I know it's not right but things need to be prioritised. That said there could be a specific operation set up if there was some intelligence the stolen cars may be there, but I doubt it would happen. Thank you Teresa May and David Cameron and everyone who voted Tory
iandq Posted January 13, 2016 Report Posted January 13, 2016 like it or not I hold the organisers responsible for this, like the Granada one the other year, how many of those were stolen beforehand?

Thank you Teresa May and David Cameron and everyone who voted Tory Police can only turn up & check cars over by one of two means, either Arena has to invite them to attend as it's on private land or the police have to go to a magistrate & obtain a warrant to attend however for a warrant to be issued there has to be concrete proof that criminal activity is definite, they can't be issued on hearsay or speculation
mk2 mike Posted January 13, 2016 Report Posted January 13, 2016 Don't need a warrant. Private land means nothing (after all, nearly all property is privately owned if that were the case police wouldn't be able to go anywhere!) police have a power under section 17 PACE (police and criminal evidence act 1984) to enter ANY premises without warrant to prevent serious damage to property. I'd say banger racing a car will seriously damage it
aardvark101 Posted January 13, 2016 Report Posted January 13, 2016 Why the F*ck would you organise a Cortina Banger Meet, i dont see the sense in smashing up low volume collectable cars,is this sort of thing for Banger Boys with cash to throw away ?

That's why I was wondering if they had other particular car meets as well! Would be interesting to see if there was a 'rover v8' meet for example and see if a spate of rover thefts occurred prior!

Tackleberry Posted January 15, 2016 Report Posted January 15, 2016 My two penned worth... I own a mk3 2.0ltr sport capri, so classic car enthusiast and owner. I have also competed in bangers for the last 25 years. I've raced mk1, 2, 3 and 4 escorts. Mk2 and 3 granada's, mk2 and 3 capri's, mk3, 4 and 5 cortina's. Admittedly this was in the 90's when they were more plentiful. Some were totally hanging and I spent a shit load on getting them fit enough to go on the track...most had been left to rot in fields, barns and gardens. Anyone had the chance to buy them but didn't. I gave away usable parts to other car owners..... So, because I'm a banger driver, does that make me scum? In every walk of life, there's thieving c@#ts. It's more painful for us as we're classic enthusiasts. But would be no less painful for porshce, ST, GT, or any other make or model of car enthusiasts. Yes, cars have been stolen by people which have ended up on the track, but these people are hated as much by the drivers as everyone else...and have previously contacted the police if one of these turned up at a meet. My point, just because we're banger drivers, it doesn't make us all bad. I now race mostly volvo's...which I'm sure would upset some but make others extremely happy. These type of meets are generally a one off, as some have had one stored for 15 years and it's an opportunity to get rid. Some have paid good money to buy one legit to race, spending a grand...mad I know, but fact...and yes, there could well be a stolen one which may pop up, but unless someone is checking chassis and engine numbers, we'll never know...but we also know how many classics have/are being stolen to be stripped and sold as parts as they're worth more. They don't, or haven't so far, had an all escort meet. There's an all granada mk1 and mk2 at Ringwood on May 14th. The forum to see what's happening is, ovalbangerchat. But be warned, if you go on there giving it large about "you shouldn't be racing this or that" don't expect any support, or polite response. It is what it is. Same as our forum. 1
buzzard Posted January 15, 2016 Report Posted January 15, 2016 I have no problem with a banger boy buying a car for a banger meet . It's been on a open market and anyone can put up the cash and he has and handed it over . It's his to do as he pleases with . I get on with my local banger boys and we help each other out . How ever I would still like vosa to attend with the police to verify the id of these cars being raced . Just a thought .there has be lots of classic fords being stolen , capris transits and escorts . If you was a gang of classic car thieves wouldn't you think it was a open day to steal cortina s because the banger boys would get the blame . I will let you think on that . Cheers buzzard .
