Hi guys,

 

Has anyone got any idea what happened to this Capri turbo ? I have done a Google search and there is a thread elsewhere but that dies a death in 2009. I bought the Capri International magazine in 1985 (still have it) and was blown away by this car as a teenager. It would be nice to know it`s still around and in good hands. I`ve got quite a hankering for an X pack Capri and this looks as good as they get to me.

It was in storage where I worked back in 91-93. No idea where it went after that. We had a tatty red wide arched Capri too. Think that might have been Daves too.

Checking the MOT history for it, its last MoT only expired in September last year so almost certainly still around in some condition

Not from me. We had it with us back in the early 90s before I even had a mobile phone let alone one with a camera! We had about two dozen cars in long term storage, a few Aston DB6s, V8 Vantages and Lamborghini miuras along with mainly RS500s. Daves Capri was under a yellow plastic dust sheet (along with the red Capri) and at the time next to the other cars we had it never got any attention. Different story now though!

Nice looking car, hopefully still knocking about somewhere, but for obvious reasons people keep them well hidden away now.

The turbo spoiler on them was always a recipe for rust though and if you didn't have good tailgate struts the weight would shut the boot on your head!!

I can say that I have seen this Capri,and it is in Stockport. I won't say the precise location,as we don't know who is lurking on the forum

Hi i worked at firm "green light tuning" in s/e london i knew David as a customer and a friend. he brought us this car after Zacspeed first 'fettled' it wanting more as he had the money and the balls to drive this... she was a monster !! when he first got it back after a bigger (F1 sized) turbo was installed and re fuelled on a dyno at waterloo cars he took it to a autobahn to let it pick up her skirt and run and said "yeah it was fun... but @ 175 mph the steering went very vague" so we found aero bars to go along the tops of the wing to stop the air flowing off the bonnet and force it up over the windscreen to push the nose down ... the guy was a legend in my eyes and is/will be truly missed ... he showed us a speeding ticket a few months later in Germany somewhere 207 mph.... that got stapled to the wall in the office.. fun times!!

Many many years ago I had the privilege of working on David's Capri as well as his RS 500 and several other cars that he owned. The Capri was very special indeed as it was built by the Ford Cologne Department in Germany and had a special plaque on the dash to commemorate the car. It was actually a 3.2 litre engine that was built by Swaymar. The turbo was salvaged from a Williams ex F1 car and all the pipework was carried out by MC Lauren. The car was truly a one off and the likes of which will never be seen again. It was an absolute pleasure to work on the Capri as well as several of Davis Brimbles other cars.
