DAN@ADRIAN FLUX Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 Hi Guys, Check out the latest edition of our Cult Classics series. Between 1964 and 1971 the Austin 1100 or 1300 were Britain’s biggest-selling cars every year, apart from 1967. Join us as we remember the car that defined family motoring. https://www.adrianflux.co.uk/cult-classics/austin-11001300-much-ado-about-something/#more-424
colr6 Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 Liked the 1300GT, all I can say good about them is they kept me in a job!
katana Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 The twin carb variant wasn't a Cooper 'S' engine (they had steel cranks) but was good nonetheless as one valiantly donated its engine to become a 1400 in my '68 Cooper 'S' Not a bad looking car either!
khanlad Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 The 1300 gt had the extra block /head stud that the Cooper s had, does that not make it the same engine as a Cooper s?
katana Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 The 1300 gt had the extra block /head stud that the Cooper s had, does that not make it the same engine as a Cooper s? Same as the 1275 GT - 12G940 casting for all inc the later 'S' engines nut earlier ones had a different casting with shorter valves. Main difference between the two was the main bearing dia. - 1/8" bigger on the 1275 / 1300 engines due to the 'weaker' crank material.
khanlad Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 The head used though was the same as the mk3 Cooper s with the 11 holes not 9 that all other normal minis not cooper s used?

colr6 Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 But then the Mk3 Cortina came along and everything changed <smug> Definetly, we went from welding crap up and fitting sub frames/ hydro spastic pipes to fitting camshafts and void bushes at a fair old rate of knots. Still in a job!
