chinkamon Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 Hi all Whilst bored flicking through ebay and magazines etc I noticed there are some mk1 cortina that have extra supports welded on to the strut top mounts and mine hasn't got them? Anyone know why some do and some don't? The photo is apparently a pre airflow the same as mine altho it's slightly newer (I'm guessing by the dash ) but I've seen later models and they haven't got them either? They look factory fitted and I've seen a few now?
baldie Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 The export shells had the extra supports
colr6 Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 Did some reading on this myself when I got my Tina and don't think there is a definitive answer. Get fed up of reading conflicting views so give up 1
colr6 Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 The export shells had the extra supports As I found no definite answer, I've got export car NO stregthening
sebspeed Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 As I found no definite answer, I've got export car NO stregthening my export car has them[63 pre airflow]as well as the bump stops fitted to the front crossmember.
2512pf Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 I recall export shells had the extra brace like the escorts had U.K. Cars never had them .mk1 lotus cortina never had them either
colr6 Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 Think the most common if they have them is pre air flow. Same as the bump stops on front crossmember supposed to be fitted to export GTs mine had the correct arms but no bump stops.
chinkamon Posted October 16, 2016 Author Report Posted October 16, 2016 Glad it's not obvious then! Mines a 63 pre air flow 1500 an hasn't got them But the picture I posted above was apparently the same car?!
colr6 Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 Some say they only fitted to GTs but then appeared on lesser models. Like a lot of stuff, if it was at hand it got fitted ! 1
