Milton A frame

I am installing a Milton A frame to my escort and it requires 2 brackets to be welded to the axel.

My question is can I weld to a complete axel or do I need to remove half shafts, diff and oil

Weld straight on after prepping of course,should be no problem. Just done all the extra brackets on my atlas while it was in the car. It's the right way to put mounts for things on while the car is at normal ride height.
