gibbo90-9 Posted July 20, 2018 Report Posted July 20, 2018 Hi, does a 2000e gear lever hit the floor handbrake when fitted in a Mk1 Cortina?
preacherman Posted July 20, 2018 Report Posted July 20, 2018 They are very close on mk1 and mk2 escorts. A quick shift for 45 quid sorts it out quite nicely.
gibbo90-9 Posted July 20, 2018 Author Report Posted July 20, 2018 Thanks, but I really need Mk1 Cortina info

Kenbex522 Posted July 21, 2018 Report Posted July 21, 2018 Pic of my T9 in a Corsair but same floor plan as your Mk1. But it does come down to where the engine is bolted in ie custom or standard install. Mine is bolted to a Zetec, but essentially the tail end of the box is in the same place as the original 1500 box. The type 9 is more or less the same length as the original box anyway.
gibbo90-9 Posted July 21, 2018 Author Report Posted July 21, 2018 Thanks but you’re talking Zetec and type 9 and thats different. There must be someone out there that’s fitted a 2000e box in a Mk 1 (Non GT) Cortina?
eeb43 Posted July 21, 2018 Report Posted July 21, 2018 you would have to cut a hole in the tunnel for the gearstick to come through
eeb43 Posted July 21, 2018 Report Posted July 21, 2018 many years ago on my first anglia i put a 2000e box and 1600gt engine in the stick and the handbrake wanted to occupy the same space so i gently bent the handbrake over to the passenger side no problems gearstick was right and handbrake was only slightly off and didnt stick or catch

sebspeed Posted July 22, 2018 Report Posted July 22, 2018 the 2000e stick is 9 1/2" further back.that's center off old hole to center off new hole.
fiestachaser Posted July 23, 2018 Report Posted July 23, 2018 Quote You will have to cut a hole for the gearstick which will be very close to the handbrake. A old trick is to bend the handbrake about an inch and this will clear the gearlever in 2nd and 4th. The other option is to use the tailshaft and selector rods from your cortina box and retain the original gearstick position and if you want to fit a mk1 Cortina Gt remote.
