Jimto 100e Posted March 8, 2021 Report Posted March 8, 2021 Hi there I am doing a Ford 100e a Pinto conversion just need some help on the rear axle I’ve been told of the 105E is the axle to use but I have a mark 2 escort rear axle what’s it like to put in fabrication and what to look out for etc thanks
eeb43 Posted March 8, 2021 Report Posted March 8, 2021 escort axle is generally too wide depending on what wheels you use
notenoughtime Posted March 8, 2021 Report Posted March 8, 2021 There was a narrow English axle on eBay recently 46inch I think you could narrow your escort axle but you need to get shafts shortened (friction welded) or new ones made
Jimto 100e Posted March 9, 2021 Author Report Posted March 9, 2021 Thanks very much this has helped a lot 😀
Jimto 100e Posted March 9, 2021 Author Report Posted March 9, 2021 Also one other hurdle is what braking system to run any help on that thanks
katana Posted March 9, 2021 Report Posted March 9, 2021 If the wheels can take them - RS Escort 9 inch drums are about as good as drum brakes get - could use discs but its a lot more work for not a lot of gain! 1
e501 Posted March 9, 2021 Report Posted March 9, 2021 But in a light car with a ton of cast iron up front wouldnt think they are needed, didnt ford use smaller drums on the rs2000..
notenoughtime Posted March 9, 2021 Report Posted March 9, 2021 Yes rs2000 had 8 inch brakes no need for discs standard drums will be fine 1
Jimto 100e Posted March 9, 2021 Author Report Posted March 9, 2021 Yes I’m going to run drums I’ll see about a disc conversion when I eventually get to drive it but What master cylinder do I run it’s one of the things I’m pretty unsure about thanks guys
notenoughtime Posted March 10, 2021 Report Posted March 10, 2021 You could use a mk2 cortina type not sure on size iirc 0.625
