mpilk Posted December 14, 2021 Report Posted December 14, 2021 im looking for a new project, thinking of mk1 escort 2 door or mk1/2 cortina 2 door want to keep the body standard , thinking of 2ltr engine with plenty of power and 5 or 6 speed manual gearbox with power steering what are you useing what the engine runing on carbs or injection, want something you can start up and go ,do not want something you have to wit for it to warm up, whats your ideas
BaileyMex Posted December 14, 2021 Report Posted December 14, 2021 Well the good thing is you have lots of choices But your budget may determine which route is the most cost effective. Plenty of engines can be made to drop into a MK1 Escort or MK1/2 Cortina. you have your good old trusted 5 speed type 9, or some of the latter 6 speed Mazda gearboxes I think can be adapted to fit (never tried but I'm sure someone can explain the complexities) 2.0 ltr wise, you have Pinto's, Zetec's, and Cossies but what is 'plenty of power'? is it a road car or are you going to be racing it? Buying the car in the first place is going to be a big dent in the wallet.... All about the budget and intended use - find a car first, see what the shell needs first and then asses the engine etc. I've stuck with a X-Flow - 1700 on a 5 speed type 9, suits me fine! but I'm not fussed by 'big power'

BaileyMex Posted December 14, 2021 Report Posted December 14, 2021 Plenty have gone the Zetec and Type 9 route, and plenty of tinker options to up the grunt There will be a lot of experience on here from others who could give you tips on what set up has worked for them.
