LUKE261 Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 thinking of welding my diff for a bit of drift action, also hoping 2 get more grip off the line at the pod, what do you lot reckon, put 2 much stress on halfshafts? i keep ripping planet wheels out with standard diffs
Morley Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 It will understeer like a pig in the early part of a corner It will sound stupid when you are doing tight manouvres as the tyres scrub round. It will give you 100% power delivery in a straight line But it will also put shafts etc under a lot of stress But its oh so much fun
LUKE261 Posted September 27, 2006 Author Report Posted September 27, 2006 be ok tho i rekon, whats the worst it can do, break a halfshaft!!!
Morley Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 Could snap the prop, smash the gearbox... blah blah blah Just take the time to learn how differently it drives bud before you try any heroics on the roundabouts...
mk2_boy Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 do it its great for doughnuts and off the line racing, but also you risk stress on all mechanicals etc, first thing that normally goes is the diff or half shaft in my opinion, but everyone has a different story,
Guest TheXEgrowler Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 How much for the Marlboro lights?? £35 and you get the diff free...LOL...
allanmex Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 do it luke, get it welded up, then the money u save not buying loads of standard diffs u could spend on a slipper
Pipster007 Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 Set up an account with a local tyre shop too
sambo Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 Blimey! how much power is your pinto doing!!
taxi Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 Hi, I been told they dont let you run at the pod with a welded diff? How they can tell i dont know. Maybe about having an off?
russ105e Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 A lot of drag cars run with spools or detroit lockers Etc which i think are pretty much a posh welded diff

Guest TheXEgrowler Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 A lot of drag cars run with spools or detroit lockers Etc which i think are pretty much a posh welded diff THAT IS RIGHT M8,THAT WHAT IS GOING IN THE VAN..GOING TO THE USA SOON AND GETING ONE,A SPOOL OR A BALL IS WHAT IS RUN IN A NASCAR.....
Tom Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 as ben said. understeer is scary on country lanes! when backing in to a parking spot the axle sounds like itrs gonna fall out (no really) you've gotta really set up for a corner, otherwise it all goes wrong. but its great fun
105Speed Posted September 27, 2006 Report Posted September 27, 2006 Its a VERY stupid thing to run on the road, especially if you have no experience of them off road, ie in Short Oval racing etc. They push on all the time and as you have a pinto that weighs 21 stone with the majority of the weight ahead of the front crossmember its all just asking for trouble in downtown Understeer City. I drove Dave Colledges Duratec Escort a couple of weeks ago and thats got a welded diff in it, which he did especially for the Classic Ford Show and it was a bitch... trying to do a simple 3 point turn was a nightmare, it was like driving along and then pulling up the handbrake. The same car, when it had a Zetec in it, Jon Hill stuck it up a tree, he thought he'd mastered it, got cocky... but it spat him out..... For your own safety buy a proper slipper and have some proper fun.
LUKE261 Posted September 28, 2006 Author Report Posted September 28, 2006 used 2 have a nova stock rod with a welded diff however was front wheel drive, should master it, swapped my 4.4 and my fooked 3.7 for a 4.1 welded diff and an unlocked 3.9 putting welded 4.1 in 2nite or 2mora gettin ready for round 5 u see ol shakespere county!!
LUKE261 Posted September 28, 2006 Author Report Posted September 28, 2006 and when my mate had a starlet hot rod, pushing it round the pits and puching on trailer was a rite bugger, so i know what heyre like 2 park!! i know what theyre like 2 drive just wanted 2 know how people got on with them on the road!!!
