thinking of welding my diff for a bit of drift action, also hoping 2 get more grip off the line at the pod, what do you lot reckon, put 2 much stress on halfshafts? i keep ripping planet wheels out with standard diffs

It will understeer like a pig in the early part of a corner

It will sound stupid when you are doing tight manouvres as the tyres scrub round.

It will give you 100% power delivery in a straight line

But it will also put shafts etc under a lot of stress

But its oh so much fun

Could snap the prop, smash the gearbox... blah blah blah

Just take the time to learn how differently it drives bud before you try any heroics on the roundabouts...

do it its great for doughnuts and off the line racing, but also you risk stress on all mechanicals etc, first thing that normally goes is the diff or half shaft in my opinion, but everyone has a different story,

as ben said. understeer is scary on country lanes!

when backing in to a parking spot the axle sounds like itrs gonna fall out (no really)

you've gotta really set up for a corner, otherwise it all goes wrong.

but its great fun :D

Its a VERY stupid thing to run on the road, especially if you have no experience of them off road, ie in Short Oval racing etc.

They push on all the time and as you have a pinto that weighs 21 stone with the majority of the weight ahead of the front crossmember its all just asking for trouble in downtown Understeer City.

I drove Dave Colledges Duratec Escort a couple of weeks ago and thats got a welded diff in it, which he did especially for the Classic Ford Show and it was a bitch... trying to do a simple 3 point turn was a nightmare, it was like driving along and then pulling up the handbrake.

The same car, when it had a Zetec in it, Jon Hill stuck it up a tree, he thought he'd mastered it, got cocky... but it spat him out.....

For your own safety buy a proper slipper and have some proper fun.
