Either way would've worked at the time ππ
-
I done one better than that, I live on my own now π advantage of her having an affair ππ But even if that wasn't the case, the engine would've only cost about 55 quid an the work my fabricator friend done on the gearbox tunnel was free as I sorted out his faulty washing machine.... Honest. π€«π

Hi all So there's nothing wrong with the car and it's runs very well ( except the funny wine from the diff) But recent copy of classic ford mag had engine swops in there Unfortunately not mentioning the mk1 Tina. So in your opinion what's the easiest/best/cheapest engine swop I could make if I were to go that route. As ECUs and sensors are beyond my brain, My personal choice would be throwing a big old v8 in there but I'm curious what you good people think. Thanks
-
Yea only from the local motor factors now, they're more expensive but I'm certain they're genuine that way
-
I bought a set of 4 champion plugs off eBay. Didn't think anything of it, car barely ran, pulled the ignition apart, carb apart etc. Couldn't understand. Went to the motor factors got some more champion plugs an hey presto worked perfectly. Didn't know fake plugs were a thing. Was lucky really as could've done all sorts of damage I'm sure!

My dad's old business partner is a proper mechanic, he loves rebuilding motors and gearboxes, maybe I'll have a word with him an pay him some notes for his time then -
And for my next question.. name that noise..

I heard about crush bearings and some other odd sounding things which was what scared meπ -

Thanks very much. I never took a diff apart before. Is it something I can attack or am I best off asking someone who has a clueπ -

That's what I been told it probably is before. Possibly pinion bearing? Or diff worn or?? -

Well at least u remember hearing it, that counts for something π -
Since I had the car it makes this noise around 55-60 It 9nly makes the noise if my foot is on the accelerator, if I take my foot off, or press the clutch, or coast at that speed it doesn't make the noise. Which to me. Means not tyres or wheel bearingπ€·π»ββοΈ Lived with it but now I can hear it around 30 too so I guess it's getting worse. Thoughts? petal_20220629_154801.mp4 VID_20220629_114148.mp4

Yea I been going through their website whilst asking the questionsπ I looked at them and couldn't work out from the photos how they work, I couldn't just them as I'm sure with my luck one bump in the road and it'd come off haha
-
Sorry I thought I attached a photo to my post I saw ones like this, Ok so proper handle type is best, Since my father's business shut down in retirement all access to this kind of thing has disappeared

Thank you very much This is why I'm asking as had issues when I first had the car running an decided to move the battery to the boot. By proper crimping tool, is the one you smash with a hammer any good or not Are you running twin cables just from the boot to the cut off on the dash? Twin 25sqmm you think would be enough then?
-
Hi all Looking at putting the battery back in the boot. Currently using a 50ah 450A battery in the front. Standard 1500 precrossflow original starter etc Wondered what size should I buy taking into account voltage drop etc Tried looking online but it fizzed my brain π

I saw a mini done in a similar style, curious, I asked the guy who posted the pic how on earth they done it... Asked loads of questions about details... He replied. It's Photoshop mate. π Since then I seen loads an majority are of the same kind. Disappointed really as regardless of the look, the thought into detail I thought was very clever

Twin 40s (Italian Weber ) wot they worth?
chinkamon replied to chinkamon's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT

Twin 40s (Italian Weber ) wot they worth?
chinkamon replied to chinkamon's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
Well as I said, he got them to put in his hot rod years ago, but never actually done anything with them. Sold the car shortly afterwards an They've just sat there on his shelf an he's never got round to even looking at them, recent house move meant he's noticed them again an so asked me to ask you lot what they're worth. I'll ask him if he thinks they're rebuildable, his garage was clean an dry purpose built for his roadster so they certainly haven't got damp. But no idea how good they were to startπ€·π»ββοΈ -
Hi all. Brothers got some Italian twin 40s, were apparently off a 1750 crossflow so he was told. Sat on his shelf for years. Never put them on his old car, no linkage. Needs a good going through. How much are they worth roughly? Cheers all

Will my wheels polish up shiny shiny??
chinkamon replied to chinkamon's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
Is that just normal polishing by hand, lots of wax on wax off rather than sanding first etc? -
Same here, the cortinas been out a lot recently but mixing with a lot of Hyundai's an BMW's, π showing these young kids what a proper car looks like ( unfortunately most of them were a lot faster than me thoughπ) Be nice to mix with some of the same era cars an folk!
-
Hi all. Will my alloys polish up shinier than they are does anyone know? If so, how? I got wire wool an rubbed them over with that then went over them with some metal polish but I've read you can sand them with fine grit then use several different abrasive polishers, or even special wheels on a grinder? Any hints tips etc more than gratefully received

Didn't realise it was on, I'm only down the road too π
