OOh. I was planning on using bulldog clips. These would appear at first glance to be a right nightmare to remove once put in place. There's a chance they could tear the headlining during their removal I reckon

My thoughts exactly. It seems really dumb. The inner one will be a simple "snip job". The outer requires a lot mode faffing about! I'd like it if just once, just once I bought something and it fitted!

I've hit a few obstacles whilst putting the interior back together on my Mk1 Apache Escort and as always will appreciate your help Door cards How on God's earth are you meant to get the door card clips in to the holes at the back of the door card? Buy the cheaper ones and make the holes in the rear of the door cards bigger! Rear 1/4 panels I assumed these would simply be a matter of pushing under the "retaining" lip on the car. Oh no! Any ideas? Also, there are many lugs on the car that seem to have no purpose as they fail to match up with any holes on the door cards despite them coming off prior to being reupholstered! Cheers VIsta. I don't want to drill my bumpers so would prefer a slimline rear mounting one though There are numerous rectangular ones that bumper mount of Fleabay but I'd prefer a round one [not that I'm being fussy! ]

I've been looking for a half decent rear mounted reverse light for sometime but they're going for silly money [£50-70 on fleabay!]

I thought amber bulbs would look a bit silly Rally Pack 2000, as I needed 1156 bulbs for the indicators, do you know the code needed for the rear brakes and indicators [these are clear] please? I've got some clear indicator leneses for my Mk1 Escort and figure I now need amber bulbs? If so, any idea where's the best place to get some. I think I'll replace the break bulbs whilst I'm at it Cheers

I guess it all comes down to the knowledge of the MOT inspector I guess. I have to take a print out of a specific paragraph within the test criteria each time the VW has an MOT as it isn't fitted with windscreen wipers. It has opening front windows thereby making it exempt from having them. I sometimes get "beef" because of my USA spec rear lights that have integrated red indicators rather than UK spec amber ones. Due to the year of the VW though they're allowed.

I used to run NOS in my 66 VW Camper. It was fully declared on my insurance as well as all the other mods. It went through 2 MOT's also! KGM insured me

Thanks Robert. Everything feels tight with no play anywhere regardless of how hard I "wiggle" it. It makes no sense to me whatsoever tbh. Why would moving the orientation of the front wheels damage the rack? I'm only doing what the steering wheel would have done!

It wasn't jacked up on a steering arm and it worked perfectly fine prior to my moving the wheels. I drove it in a few days ago and it's only recently had an MOT [6 weeks ago in fact] You're on the money with the track rod ends Ray: there's approx. 10 threads showing on the passengers side with 7-8 on the drivers side so they seem fine with no sign of threads being ripped. When I grab the wheel at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and try to move/ wobble it there's zero give. Grabbing at 3 and 9 o'clock and moving results in both wheels moving Is the general consensus I've knackered the rack?

That's my plan today Ray. I'll take some them pop them up

The doors on my Mk1 Escort are currently taped up prior to painting so I'm unable to gain access to the steering wheel. A method I've implemented for many years is to put a person on each front wheel then both push/pull simultaneously until the desired turn is achieved. After using the same method tonight prior to putting the car onto the lift I was somewhat perturbed to notice they no longer point in the same direction! In fact, when I turn the drivers wheel until it's at full lock, the passengers wheel is at a good 15 to 20 degres greater lock! Have I fecked something up?

Thx Vista. The rear arch in concern has clearly been replaced and by a blind man by the looks of it! Rather than a clean arc, there are two 35mm long sections of straight line! Looking at it, the whole sill line isn't perfectly straight either. The big question of course, is whether or not to remove all the paint and filler around the arch area to try to determine the extent of the poor work. "Pandora's Box" springs to mind!
