It will have been 86-91 landy master cylinder he used, but he's at work ATM so waiting for him to confirm. How can the pressure behind the pistons be less than std with more pressure ability from the master cylinder.? It's a dual braking system. I can fully understand how uprating the cylinder size works. It makes common sense to me that if you increase the amount off fluid behind something then you need to uprate the pressure ability to push it. Cheers. Fozzy

Really?, not as far as I know mate. I've not bled brakes since I had an escort in the 80s-90s and I always bled from the furthest away, same as central heating radiators. I'm happy to be proven wrong. Anyway, a bit of an update. Got speaking to a mate of mine who put a rover V8 into an escort in the mid to late 90s. He put a 2.8I capri axle on it and bought a disc conversion kit. He's just told me that the recommendation was to uprate the master cylinder to a landrover one which he did, as they have a bigger piston so can push more volume behind the caliper pistons. His brake pedal was at the top from the off and had no trouble, so looks like the way forwards. Cheers. Fozzy

I was running it without servo help for a while when the servo went knackered and didnt find it too bad. I need to get it tested first and then we're moving to lincs, so the pedal box will have to wait anyway mate. If I can get it through test as is, then I'll be happy. Cheers. Fozzy

That's interesting mate, yes I am using the original master cylinder. So why is this. ? I have considered putting a bias box on and may have in the future. Will the set up I have at the moment pass it's test.? Thanks bud. Fozzy

I have since rebled the system as there was a very slight leak on the T piece on top of the diff housing, that is now ok and its bled better. I took the OS rear wheel off to look at the piston. It was out behind the the pads so that to me looks like it's adjusted out as it should. As for the NS rear, I don't know as I'd had enough by this time and went home. Was just chatting to a mate and he thinks that as it's all new it will have to bed in, pads onto discs etc. I'll have another look in the next day or 2 as I've got to make a new handbrake rod from the lever bottom. Ok guys, I'm here again. I've made a new brake pipe up and fitted it. My RS2000 has cosworth calipers on the back with cosworth handbrake cable. My good lady wife sat in the car and pumped the brakes for me as I bled away working from the furthest away from the master cylinder. Although the brakes work, the pedal is going right to the bottom, although if I pump it a bit it comes to about a quarter of the way up but then goes back to the bottom. The handbrake works ok. It seems to me that the pistons arn't self asjusting up and staying open. So what have I done wrong and is there a procedure to getting the pistons to self adjust. Cheers Fozzy

It's funny as the replacement headlights have a little raised area just below the chrome bezel line and these clips/plates fit exactly into position then screw or rivet the bezel to the clip to stop the headlight falling out. That's how it was before I replaced it and I've just done the same back. Cheers Fozzy

I bought some new halogen headlights for the escort a while back. I took the old lights off to replace and noticed that the chrome bezel is riveted to the light via 3 little plates. Is this what they were like originally.? It seems like they were so I've redone them back as they were as there doesn't seem to be any other option like springs. Cheers. Fozzy

Thanks mate. Just been tightening all bolts up on axle once wheels are all equal. Put new rad on but forgot my keys so couldn't bleed the water system. Took old headlights off to put new ones on but got a bit of work to do on bezels. Hopefully bleed brakes tomorrow and get headlights on. Fozzy

Well I did more work today on the axle. I fitted it to the car incl handbrake cable. Need to put a new tramp bar poly bush on as yet and connect the brake line up and bleed. In the meantime I put the wheels on and lowered it to see how it will look and I am well pleased. I bought a new radiator aswell, so that needs fitting too. Fozzy

Well the capri axle I got for my RS2000 is finally finished and ready to install. We did a dry run to test the handbrake cable on Wednesday and welded brackets on. I've since painted it up and fitted the discs, calipers and pipes which were kindly made by Colr6. Since its off I'm gonna take the leaf springs off, clean them down and paint those too. Well I might aswell while I'm at it. The cosworth handbrake cable I got seems to work as it should and is the perfect length with me thinking I may have to cross it over at the back to loose some length. I'll update with more photos as I install it. Fozzy

Think I've sussed it. When I put the axle on for a dry run I attached the prop onto it then lifted the car as if at driving height. As you will know the diff is offset to the drivers side. As the diff on this capri axle is slightly longer than the escort I believe the prop is up to its limit in the gearbox. This means that the prop is pushing back in favour of the drivers side. Just a few more checks to do then I'm gonna try it tomorrow. Cheers. Fozzy

Yes mate, you are spot on. This is making me wonder IF the O/S spring has been put on wrong way. My mate has suggested it may be the bushes in the leaf springs that have play but the initial measurements that I am getting suggest about 1" out. I doubt very much that bushes would make 1" difference. Unless it's a build up of other bushes need replacing. Thanks buddy. Fozzy

Thanks mate. I would go and check on my car but it's kept at the outlaws so not convenient until tomorrow. I have since seen a pic of a pair but the distances would be greater than that for which my tramp brackets are angled at. If you know what I mean. You can see the difference in how the brackets will be angled if welded into this position. The o/s side of the axle seems to be about 1" further back than n/s. Fozzy
