  1. Donington 1989, 3 weeks after the Oulton Park shunt and first time out in the new shell, didn't go quite to plan but good fun all the same........
  2. There's only 1 manufacturer of pattern wings for the Capri now, in Spain or Italy can't remember, the UK importer is Hadrian. This place does them for £80 with the vat..... http://www.bodyshopwarehouse.co.uk/default.asp?go=8 or you might be able to get them cheaper at your local panel supplier, as they can usually get them in within a couple of days.
  3. In OSF dreamland I would have bid on the ex-works Cologne Capri that came up for auction a couple of years ago in TWR's collection, went for £65k. I would have then raced it in the FIA Historic's. Also done the 246 thing, after setting the carb's up on this one I spent a few hours spanking it round a private airfield, although it wasn't as quick in a straight line or as composed on the corners as my Capri

  5. Brakes....No difference in braking force just a slight improvement in fade resistance with the vents. Oh and the 2.8 has bigger bore rear cylinders for it's worth! Suspension.....the 2.8 suspension was sorted by SVE so is an improvement and would be the quicker car point to point. 3.0S with 2.8 suspension & LSD
  6. 3.0S for me
  7. Haha...yeah he was getting more and more untidy and missing the apexes. Well I raced for 10 years and this year I will have been out of it for 10, still have the car in the hope I'll get out again one day. Also have the green one below which I use to blow the cobwebs off on the ocasional trackday. At that time it was in Road Saloon spec ie. full interior, std. brakes except for lining material, std. wheels, Uniroyals, no LSD allowed, internal engine mods were allowed. So it was heavy, didn't stop, didn't have much grip but had about 230bhp so was a lot of fun Cheers Tim Will be adding more as and when time allows, most of the 40 hrs of footage is still on vhs
  8. I'm all paid up as well
  9. Yeh, thats the way it goes sometimes, I was putting him under pressure and when he cracked he took me with him, what you call a racing accident. I remember saying all the way home from there, thats it I'm finished no more racing. Of course 3 weeks later the car was re-shelled and I was out again, making sure those Rovers didn't have it all their own way
  10. Thought I would start with the end of my 2nd shell at Oulton Park, 1989 ( luckily I didn't video the end of my 1st shell as that was my fault ) This was the end result..... More to come as I did about 200 races and have around 40 hours of video!
  11. Think the limit for the road is 82db, but as mentioned they have no way of checking it at an MOT so it's at their discretion. Last year I was told mine was too noisy so took it to a more old skool friendly place and he said as long as it's silenced and doesn't leak he's happy
  12. A car park full of Capri's, I'll definitely be going to that
  13. I made a system for the race car many years ago including the silencer. The first 1/3 of the silencer was an expansion chamber to take some of the energy out of the gasses. Then the other section I filled with rockwool, the perforated tube I used had holes approx 3mm diameter. Last year I made a stainless system for the green Capri and used a couple of Jetex silencers. http://www.jetex.co.uk/website/custom_p ... a=2.5+inch These people do some useful bits.... http://www.milneroffroad.com/PIPE.HTM
  14. The RS2 bellhousing can be used on the 2.8 5-speed (Type 9) as it's from the same family as the RS2 4-speed (Type E). The 2.8 4-speed cannot be used as it's the same as the 3.0 4-speed (except for the input shaft and bellhousing) ie a 'Type 5' and the only bellhousings available are for the 2.8 or 3.0 V6's.
  15. If it's a 4-speed from an early 2.8 it will be the 'Type 5' also used on the 3.0 Essex with a different bellhousing and input shaft. I think your biggest problem will be mounting it on a 4-pot as it was only ever used on V6's so I don't think there is a bellhousing available. If the other one is from an early Mk1 it will be the one with external rods and awful ratios !
  16. As Ian mentioned there is no measurable power to be gained from them being lighter, but the crank driving the pump and alternator slower would, although 6-8 bhp seems a bit high. I made a smaller ally crank pulley for my Essex and a larger one for the alternator, plus a larger steel one on the waterpump. So when the engine is spinning at 8000rpm the water pump is doing the same rpm as it would at 6000 with the standard pulley, to prevent cavitation. As for overheating at low rpm I couldn't say because it doesn't have any cooling fans fitted and doesn't do slow
  17. Cheers Tim & Kev Connected to a Cosworth 24V on a pair of triple choke carbs it certainly sounds different, but from where I'm sitting I'm not sure what it sounds like. Perhaps if anybody heard it on the track at Ford Fair could compare it with anything?
  18. I've made a few, even made the silencers from scratch on the race car. Just made a stainless steel one this summer for my 24V, got the silencers from Jetex. After a lot of searching for the best (cheapest) place to get bends and tubing i found www.nexusflow.co.uk in Hounslow who supply the food industry were about half the price or more than exhaust suppliers and also very helpful. As already mentioned above best to tack it together as you work along under the car then when your happy weld fully. Although a TIG welder would be nice the MIG didn't do a bad job. I also made some flanges to bolt it together, much easier to remove when needed. Total cost of system £210.....

  24. Two very different disciplines, threading a car through the forest at 3 figure speeds takes some doing, but also leading a race with a pack of cars chewing your rear bumper off for 10 laps takes some doing, and it seems to take for ever to get to the chequer flag! Each to there own, enjoy.
  25. I'm surprised, I assumed most of you Escort owners would be rally biased as thats were the majority of it's motorsport history lies. Circuit racing - and my favorites would have to be the Zakspeed Escorts.
