  1. sounds like some good advice. I don't think i have damaged the heads as i caught the overheat early and toped it up almost straight away. it then did 50 miles home easily so im not too worried about that. As for the porting - i think thats either been done or the heads/cam are not standard as the timing was still out when i set it to standard. It's a real bitch to start it but once going - goes like a train, wheel spinning through the first 3 gears if i let it! (manual is so much fun!) there is bags of torque but i havn't done a rolling road to guess the bhp yet. i recon your cam upgrade is a good idea - i'm happy with the crane profile description too (don't know a whole lot about profleing. I recon this company who quoted £50 for the diagnostics is a good place to start, plus they are local.
  2. cheers - pm me if you don't want a number to go out. I am thinking of taking mine to spalding v8 specialists on the v8 forum. they charge 50 to strip and clean the engine and then give you a price on what needs doing then and there!
  3. with all that i would expect close to 210 maybe 215 on a fresh build, considering it probably needs retuning im going to say 197 for the rolling road
  4. trust you to want something so small and weigh so much!
  5. hi all, I need a company close to northampton to rebuild my rover v8 engine (whilst thats not OSF the Capri it goes in is!) I think the head gasgets gone but i really want to get the engine nice and reliable. I already have some parts and the current engine runs but overheated in traffic recently. I have a brand new 3.9 block pistons and a spare crank but i will probably opt for some uprated parts. My old engine is running a edlebrock performer inlet and 500 carb to (giggle gas setup but not fully connected yet) and i've got a duplex timing gear somewhere for it Trouble is whilst im happy to go ahead with the head gasget change which i think is all that is needed for now - thats about as far as my experience goes with this type of engine! I also don't have a limited budget which is why i'm also not going out and buying a crate engine ready to go! plus i am rather attached to the one i've got now. all thoughts and suggestions appreciated
