You,re not wrong there! Managed to get a couple of days hol to get the thing finished .Usually i enjoy sorting bodywork but i am lacking in enthusiasm on this one . Still one side is now all armour plated and i,ll tackle the other side tomorow . Some good news is that father inlaw will have enough funds for a newish car in a few weeks and does not want the freelander repaired which means i,ll hang on to this as a daily driver when he,s done with it.

A drive from one side of the country to the other with no radio and only 4 gears followed by afew runs giving your car death hoping it does,nt fall apart as you still have to drive it home again Crazy? Probably, but i still look foward to it

I know what you are saying but at thirty pounds i was well and truly stitched up To be fair i,m actually p****d off with my situation managment rather than the car

Lovely colour Tony SS50 honda?

Just after christmas the inlaws freelander cambelt snapped with the normal results(bent valves etc). Also it needs a rear diff and other odds & sods. Anyhow being busy at work and the freelander being 60 miles away meant that repairing it would have to get put on hold for a few weeks so i lent father inlaw my fiesta. All was going well until i had this great idea . At the end of my road sat this Fiat punto for sale for 50 notes .No t&T and needed a clutch.Anyhow it did,nt look too bad and fitting a clutch in one is easy so i buy it for 30 pounds get it home and replace the clutch .I then replaced all the brakes as they were shot and a wishbone. Then disaster! after doing the mechanical bits i notice a dodgy looking area on the rear sill ,on further investigetion i find that the floor is no longer joined to the inner sill front to back on both sides so out comes the interiour and the welder which is where i,m upto now. So to sumarise , My osf is being used as a daily by fatherinlaw ,I have a broken freelander to sort and to top it all my garage is full of rotten italian crap Me thinks i could have done things differently P.s Father inlaw is doing some major work on my house when the better weather arrives which is why i got volunteered to help. Anyway back to the garage now for a few hours welding. thanks for listening

I do mine this way too but after applying i use a hot air gun (carefully) to warm the outside of the sills, chassis rail etc so that it flows nicely into all the crevices.

My father in law came to ours on friday to take his ageing sickly freelander for an mot at the garage where my wife works (discount price). Anyway i came home from work to be faced with a freelander and a 2 sheet failure list to sort plus she had loaned her dad my fiesta until i get his sorted Not as bad as i sounds though as he,s in the building trade and has volunteered to sort my fasia boards, guttering and exterior wall coating out. I,m just not sure how the fiesta will cope with being driven sensibley for a while

PON14R rally rep PICS?

Cheers for that When i got it in late2002 it had mostly been stripped for parts .i.e no engine or box, no interior and no doors but always up for a challenge i bought it any way .Fitted mk2 rs2000 roll top interior and built myself a fairly decent 2ltr along with a 5spd box.Capri 2.8i front legs and brakes ,Also i sorted the body work with new wings ,top half inner wings ,front panel,re skinned some doors i bought and changed it from red to signal orange with 1300s stripes and fitted 7j x13 superlights with black centres .It looked good for a year but the rear arches were bubbling up so i decided to alloy arch it and turn it into a rally rep in white and red with motorcraft decals etc. It looked great but sadly only lasted like that for a few months before i crashed it.Because i was a bit unconcious at the time the police had it recovered and i made the mistake of going through my insurance as the recovery and storage costs were huge.Obviously its was written off and there was no buy it back clause in my policy so i never saw it again. -
PON14R rally rep PICS?

Sorry for that ,i lost it in the wet and hit several tree,s .I,m still really gutted about it 5 years on There are a couple of pics in classic ford mag Nov 2004 in the readers rides section. It did,nt look unrepairable in the pics but the whole shell was severly twisted with the bootlid being about the only panel worth saving. -
Imo that sums it up for me. I,m not that talented and certainly not financially well off but for me its fun and provides immense job satisfaction to do all my own work. I know that even if i had the cash i,d still do my own work as i would get no pleasure in owning or driving a car that was rebuilt by someone else.Thats just my opinion though.

Thanks for the kind comments I tried to get it ready for the last round of the OSFDC but failed by 1 day .But at least by giving myself a target date to finish it by it is now completed otherwise i would probably still be working on it into next year. The paint finish is pretty good all things considered i.e i did it myself in a pokey garage with second rate equiptment.Obviously its not anything like an expensive profesional job but the whole thing was completed for around 150 pounds (and lots of hours graft) so i,m well pleased all in all. -

Love it everything about it looks spot on. -
I changed the colour of my fez from yellow to white last March after welding up all the holes and replacing various panels. I only did it white because i obtained the paint for free which was a bad mistake as firstly the quality of the paint was rubbish and secondly i realised that i did,nt like the car in white. So for the last few weeks i have stripped off all the old layers of paint and done it a nice subtle shade of signal amber which may not be to everyones taste but i like it much more than the white. Thanks for looking.

I had a 1.0 metro on a 'Y' reg with a whining (badly ) gearbox for about a week until i pulled out of a blind junction ,saw there was a lorry coming so i gave it some right foot only for the gearbox to explode and the lorry took the front end clean off Happy days!

I,m lucky i suppose in that i enjoy my job, mind you i work on my own 90% of the time so there is no one to piss me off or argue with which probably helps.
