ARGH, decisions! engine choice...
Craigorypeck replied to baxterbaxter's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
Your 2.9 capri is already uprated, it might fetch good money. Then seek out a cheap minimal rust 1.6 and start from there, may give you extra monies for the power box. I'm stickin an N/A YB cosworth in mine, not cheap tho. A honda s2000 lump will give 250bhp in standard form, pretty simple too- no turbos or the like. Anyhow I'm sure others have more experience than me on a good conversion. Enjoy! -
Pump has been stripped and cleaned out. There is a bubble at the top of the filter king, maybe this is not allowing the back pressure to slow the pump..? Makes sense, I'll bleed it tomorrow and see if it makes a difference. Hopefully! Cheers
-
It dont even slow down?? flat to the mat all the time?? Do ya think it fooked?
-
It's wired in via a fused ignition switched relay with an inertia switch safety... doesn't get any more proper than that! I was told red tops had an interrupter type design- it actually slows down to a stop when it fully primes the system, ticks over slowly when the engine idles and speeds up when the engine requires more juice...
-
Just fitted a red top pump and I thought they were the interrupter type, but it just keeps going when the bowls are primed??? I bought it second hand so may be a few years old, is it only the most recent versions that have the interrupter function?? Many Thanks

Near done with my engine build but I need a manifold to mate my YB cossy head up to a set of mikuni 40mm bike carbs. Boggs are good but a long wait and expensive. Just wondering if any metalworkers with a TIG want the job? I have an inlet manifold gasket I can send for the flange and will email you a drawing with all the info included. The YB inlets face up at near the correct angle for the carbs so it will be pretty straight forward. Any takers???? I can paypal a deposit too.

What do you think of this paint scheme?
Craigorypeck replied to BlouFord's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
The lines hold their own with out the 2 tone colour scheme, but the last one is defo the best! The MkIII is my new fav ford! -
Have any MJ users got a calibrated temp value I can have to get the temp gauge working properly? Dont want to be pouring boiling water onto the sender to try and set it up!!! Thanks
-
Got the car fired up today after putting in new cam.. well was a tooth out to start with but alls better now apart from a trial run with the edis system with no mega jolt connected, wouldn't start? I was using the +/- that were originally connected to the coil... I left in a hurry and didint check but is the coil power supply ballasted and wont power the edis unit? also the HT leads are a bit tight on the pinto plugs do these need modified? Cheers Plus any idea what the reading on a multimeter would be from a properly set up vr sensor?
-
Got cam lube and new standard spray bar... Cheers for the pointers!
-
Got all the edis stuff on the bay for £25.. Debating on whether to buy the ready made MJ or the diy one..... Thanks for the pointers!
-
Whats the rules when fitting a new fast road camshaft? No high revs for how long/miles? No low revs when first started??? Thanks
-
I'll try Maplins then for the part, any idea of what I should be looking for or maybe a part number??? You could probably buy the entire MJ set up in Maplins for £10! if only there was a components list floating about!!?? LOL
-
Can any ford throttle position sensor be fitted to dcoes to work with MJ, or does it have to be a certain one???
-
Thats a good idea Beakster... I think there's an old points dissy lying around I can mod, if I can find it..
-
Well on the 32/36 was getting around 33mpg, with the 40s on a very well behaved right foot I'm getting about 26, high teens if I floor it all the time which I do cause it sounds fantastic!!! I'm gonna uprate the cam to make more use of the fuel being thrown at it and maybe a mappable ignition with throttle position sensor to try and make it more powerful, maybe even economical!!

They are 13" 7J minilites, with 215/50/13 tyres on. It originally had the same size BF Goodrich with raised white lettering and loads of tread left but they were beginning to perish really badly and I was scared of a blowout so I changed them. Harder than you may think finding tyres this size!!! BF stopped making this tyre years ago. These were imported from US by my local tyre dealer whos a big corolla head who has the same minilites as mine. Was thinking of as pair of alleycats at some stage, they are way cooler.

Woops! sorry to post in the wrong section.... Thanks for the nice comments! Its a ford colour but not Capri, neuveau red, not sure that's spelt right!!!?? It's been on a few NI Capri club runs at the start of the season also the ford fare in Portrush, nothing after that tho as I've been away most of the summer in U.S, I'll be home at the weekend for xmas so there'll be a bit of driving and work done to the car... Incase anyones wondering, I seriously doubt the mileage on the clock!! Maybe from when the engine was rebuilt I presume
