bomber1 Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 went to escort tec to day and when i started coming back the brakes felt soft/ non exsistant. tho they did pump up thinking i had blown a rear cylinder i pulled up in a layby. no wetness on the back plates and no loss of fluid then the rest off the drive home they were fine is the maser cylinder shot or was i just to heavy on the brakes on the way down
Fiesta Steve Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 Sounds like it may be the master cylinder.
flyingbanana Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 sounds like it could be master cylinder but if you were on the brakes hard ,could have caused brake fade....if you want to buy new seals you can get them from here http://www.pastparts.co.uk/
Wessie Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 sounds like the master cylinder pushed past its seals
bomber1 Posted April 20, 2007 Author Report Posted April 20, 2007 they didnt seem to have fade before i parked up was there 15/20 mins then left and had fade from there till i pulledup and checked the car over about 30 mins from leaveing escort tec to when i finnished looking at the car? is there any way of testing the master cylinder on the car? dont want to through money at the car but equally dont want a dangerous car!
bomber1 Posted April 20, 2007 Author Report Posted April 20, 2007 sounds like the master cylinder pushed past its seals would it come back on its own or is f##ked once its pushed past its seals? it does seem ok now
Fiesta Steve Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 if you were on the brakes hard ,could have caused brake fade.... BHut they wouldn't have pumped up if it was fade, would they ?
bomber1 Posted April 20, 2007 Author Report Posted April 20, 2007 if you were on the brakes hard ,could have caused brake fade.... BHut they wouldn't have pumped up if it was fade, would they ? good point
Fiesta Steve Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 sounds like the master cylinder pushed past its seals would it come back on its own or is f##ked once its pushed past its seals? it does seem ok now Yes m8, one minute they will be fine then the next thing you know your foot sinks to the floor and you run into the car in front !!! Then they are fine again
flyingbanana Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 the brake fad would only cause the car not to stop has well, the pads would be hot.....but prob very unlikely ..brake fade normally happens with drum brakes or alot of hard braking
Fiesta Steve Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 ok point taken will hunt one down Change your brake fluid at the same time, it often gets overlooked on old cars
