What to do after a smash?- insurance....

Ok not osf, but my bros car is just as nice and he's put so much into it.

 

he got hit on the rear drivers corner which has buggered that quater panel, the boot and the rear drivers door dont open and close too easily now. looks like some of the structural metal behind the quater panel is screwed.

 

now hes been onto the insurance and they want to take it away for asessment but once they do, and if they write it off, apparently he cant touch it anymore.

so should he remove the trick bits on his car and swap it back for the std stuff so he can then transfer it onto another car hes already got linned up?

 

they prob wont give him the money hes spent it on, like the grand engine, so should he swap it out, so if they do take the car, they get a shitter?

 

anythoughts welcome, but lets keep them to the subject, no slagging etc!

 

ps he is fully insured for the mods, but doubtfull theyl give him what its all worth, plus theyl just crush a shit hot motor, leather interior etc...

thats the problem insurance already know, and i dont think its really that safe for repairing... i think that if it was repaired the safety of the vehicle would be compromised in another smash..

 

its looking like itl be stripped and swapped over with std parts before its taken away..

I've had a fair few people hit me up the arse and I've never had a car taken away to be assessed. They always come to me.

 

I remember having to take shiny bits off my Sierra once before assessment took place.

DO NOT let em take it away, if he does he wont see it again, itl go to auction, probably as a category D, and someone a few months later will be driving around in a bargain thats all his hard work.

 

i have full salvage rights on my insurance, that was my top priority, if anything happens to mine it comes back to my adress regardless.

I didn't know you could get that. I was panicking about my Capri when someone drove up the back of it. Luckily the insurance paid out for the work but I thought it was going for scrap.

its not something they really like you knowing about as believe you me, they have contracts with salvage/recovery companies, its all about lining each others pockets.

 

let your insurance sort your deal and then demand that you have full salvage rights over the vehicle

so how do we stop them from taking the car?! what about getting it repaired, whats if its not safe to be put back on the road, or what is it cant be repaired due to the internal damage, like i said the doors dont shut properly

 

what should he do? tell them to piss of and come to him? i cant see another way round it..

only if it isnt guna receive a load of slagging off. i appriciate his car as much as he does mine. we're both enthusiasts of motors and love powerful motors.

 

His car is a vauxhall astra mk3. and before anyone calls it a heap of shit, you should see it in the flesh, well before the accident anyway. was a bloody lovely motor, that pissed all over my capri (redtop motor with over 170bhp)

 

the shame is the shear amount of blood sweat and tears put into it, just for some coffin dodger to run into the back of it. he did everything him self, and i helped out where i could...

tesco insurance took mine & i never saw it again & they said "AS WE HAVE PAID OUT FOR THE CAR IT IS LEGALLY OURS " but mine was a write off so i dont know where you stand with that ???? but you also said that all his mods are declared so if you take all the stuff off the car & replace it with the standard stuff they MIGHT,THATS MIGHT!!!!!! refuse a payout as that is not how they insured the car (they will try anything to avoid a payout been there done that ) & make sure you get it in writing off them that YOU get the car back whatever happens (if they agree to it )

my mondeo got taken away and got told it was a right off and it was only some of the front bumper and light. They wanted to give me £250 for it told them wasnt taking that so I did get more.
