....this site again! :mrgreen::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Anyone that had the misfortune to be behind my car on Sunday will know I was having a small smoke problem :shock: I only managed to get one poor run up the strip because it wasn't behaving to well and I needed it to get me the 100 miles back home again.

When I got the car last year it was in bits and up until then the most i had ever done mechanically was to change some brake shoes and replace a cam belt.

Luckily I found this site and when rebuilding the mex whenever I got stuck I used the little search button on the forum to find out what I was doing wrong or if I couldn't find what I was lookin for I just asked and sooner or later someone would have an answer for me! :thumbsup:

On Sunday at santa pod by chance I met the former owner who built the engine and told me he had spent around £1500 10 years ago! He was driving a mint RS500 and told me if I ever sell to give him first refusal! i was a bit embarrassed sitting in the queue to go up the strip when it was smoking and running lumpy and after my first ever run I was convinced I had done major damage to my engine and was a bit gutted. :(

Still it was a top day out and good to meet more of you lot. We limped home and I put her away in the garage. I spent most of last night trying to estimate how much an engine rebuild was going to cost me :shock::roll:

Today at work I was doing my usual nosing around the site when I stumbled across a "crossflow breathing" thread which reminded me of something that Rustypup suggested might be my smoke problem except when he mentioned it "engine breathing" meant as much to me as cross country skiing to Steven Hawkins. After doing a little more reading up I started to realise that the "useless pipes" sticking out of the engine maybe shouldn't have been capped off with 14mm bolts :?

Needless to say I rushed home tonight and after half an hour of open bonnet surgery the old girls breathing was improved 100%! I took her out for a small thrashing and on return checked the smokage and you can see the result in the video. I am once again chuffed to buggery that I haven't paid someone to sort out this embarrassing problem and I owe this site a large :beer: Thanks OSF! :big hug:
