PaulAshman Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 I am thinking about fitting an axle location kit to my mk3 capri, will this help stiffen up the back end and improve handling? Also what advantages do single leaf springs have over multi leaf springs? Thnks. Paul.
Admin Vista Posted May 1, 2007 Admin Report Posted May 1, 2007 Not sure what you mean by stiffen up the back end as it certainly won't stiffen your springs or struts. But it is a good way of locating the live axle on a capri, not as good as a panhard rod but I understand that rods are not as straight forward to fit to a capri as they are on an escort As to multi / single leafs, there was a good thread on this recently I'll see if I can't find it Here you go http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... light=leaf
PaulAshman Posted May 1, 2007 Author Report Posted May 1, 2007 Thanks for the link there mate, very helpful. So an axle location kit will more just improve the handling yea? Also will it make a difference to my back end out action?
Admin Vista Posted May 1, 2007 Admin Report Posted May 1, 2007 The X frame kit (is that still what they call them) as I understand it works in a similar fashion to a panhard rod (though not as effectively) and reduces the tendency of the body to lean out over the rear axle as you corner heavily. When it snaps back in to place as the corner eases off the balance of the rear of the car is upset and can end up with you facing the wrong way. Retro is the best person to ask for advice on handling improvements, try asking the question in his room
Retromotorsport Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 have a look here ........................ http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread. ... ht=x-frame
4parajon Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 Ive seen this question asked on most of the forums where the owners have Capri's and the answers always seem to be the same, some owners swear by them and some dont. I dont have one, but I'll be getting one just to see if they work or not for me
V8ian Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 Advantage of singles over multis ------33lbs in weight The A frame in my eyes is a compromise, my mate has one fitted, and the car does not tramp in the slightest, neither does it put the power on the ground, it now just spins up, It may work on a stiffly sprung car but I have yet to see one that works well, For me, assuming you want to keep the leafs, I would be fitting a decent set of anti tramp bars and a panhard bar, or watts linkage.
Morley Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 We have the kit on our project capri... It's a definate improvement over standard, but it's definately not the ultimate in axle location
PaulAshman Posted May 1, 2007 Author Report Posted May 1, 2007 Does this effect getting the back end? ie drifting etc
