FlashCadillac Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 My mate has a 1600 Mk2 Cortina and iv got my 1300 Capri. My capri has always out accelerated his cortina, understandably because the capri was the sports car of the day... ...is it the gearbox as we both has 4-speeds but his is a different layout to mine of will it be the back axel ratio that makes the difference?? what can he buy to upgrade it?
adam.wilkinson Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 I think it will probably be a combination of both mate! I'm running a 2ltr Pinto i mine with head work and lightened fly wheel etc and it's on the origional 1.6 4 speed and rear axle and it out accelerates most things!!! hehe Soooo much fun. The only prob is when you get to higher speeds, if he fits the same rear dif as you his engine will be reving more at higher speeds! All down to what you want from a car tho....
Messenjah Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 hi m8 ive got a pinto (with a 5 speed) but i was wondering what sort of speed u can cruise at on the motorway and what you top out at with the 1.6 rear diff
FlashCadillac Posted May 1, 2007 Author Report Posted May 1, 2007 with my 1.3 and the 4 speed and i asume its the same back axel as the 1600 i tend to stick between 65-75 as i dont want to kill the engine (look below... that worked well) but it gets up to 90 easily and iv had it up to 95 before now..... top speed is only meant to be 86
Messenjah Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 well tht was meant to be a pm to adam lol oops
adam.wilkinson Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 I think the 1300 was a different one again mate, although i may be wrong!!! But i think in the day the best thing you could do to em was fit the 1300 diff as it produced more torque, but obviously lost top end!!!
