One did on Blackheath hill a few years ago! It appeared overnight... a massive massive hole and deep too. But yet it took the local councils about 2 years to get the road open again.

 

What's worse, it is the old A2, which is still the main route into London. You should see it now... just another excuse to paint bus lanes on it.
