Pye Man Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Now then. Was just thinking about this today. What are the chances of H.P.E doing a hot Zetec? A company synomous with screaming X-flows and Pintos. Imagine the power potential with a Zetec!!! Any plans lads?
Fiesta Steve Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 But whats to gain over the Pinto ? If they want 16 valves stick a Cosworth head on a pinto block. But they seem to do quite well with just 8 valves
X-pack-Glyn Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Im not so sure, HPE zetec wouldnt have quite the old skool heritige of a decent crossflow or OHC... i think when the street driveable aspo 250 brake pinto is reached its time to move on to more modern things, untill then persevere... this new fangled stuff all seems a bit delecate compared to an iron blocked steel cranked pinto or crossflow, my zetec feels stressed to hell at anything over 5k.
James HPE Motorsport Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 to be honest H.P.E have never bothered to persue a hot zetec because the design of them is not really suited to high performance in my opinion and they are too tempramental! A 2.1 all out zetec would just about see the figures that my grandad is getting out of a pinto and even then it would probably be unreliable! My dad did a few 1800 zetecs when we were racing the formula fords and they were pretty good but for some reason the 2litre version is somewhat lazy in comparison with only a little midrange power to be gained from the extra capacity! I think you will see some "HOT" newer ford engines being produced from H.P.E in the near future but for sure it wont be a zetec but thats not to say a zetec build would be turned down if someone specifically wanted one!

Aye fair play mate I can now understand why a Pinto is the choice for big power. Any who. Keep up the good work with engines. Hope to see the Harris clan running down the strip.... ...If the weather doesnt fook it up
