Admin Mk2Jo Posted June 19, 2007 Admin Report Posted June 19, 2007 Some of you may know that a group of us went over to the Isle of Wight RSOC Show in September last year and had a fantastic day out Well, this year the show is on Sunday 23rd September at the Robin Hill Country Park on the Isle of Wight: http://www.robin-hill.com/events.asp?event=16 I would like to make a week-end of it this year and propose the following: Saturday 22nd September: 10am - ferry from Portsmouth Harbour 10.40am - arrive at Fishbourne 11.00am - start drive around the island (exact route and times to be confirmed) 1.00pm - stop for lunch somewhere nice 2.00pm - continue on drive round island 4.00pm - arrive at hotel in Sandown - secure cars in private hotel car park. 5.00pm - wander down to beach/promenade/shops/arcades for those who want to (5 mins walk from hotel to beachfront/shops ) 7.00pm - back to hotel to get changed 8.00pm - back into town for food, pub and night clubbing for those who want to Sunday 23rd September: 8.00am - Breakfast at hotel 9.00am - leave hotel 9.30am - Arrive Robin Hill Country Park Last year we went for a drive around the island as well as playing on the toboggans etc at Robin Hill CP. Depending on how busy the show is we could do the same this year. 5.00pm - Ferry home from Fishbourne 5.40pm - Arrive Portsmouth 6.00pm - Pub meal for those that want to hang around Day Over .... These are approximate timings just to give you an idea of what is planned, it is not meant to be a military style week-end The cost at the moment is a little unclear because the ferry crossing prices have not yet been announced. Last year Wightlink ferries did a special deal for those attending the RSOC Show of about £30 PER CAR (I think) for a day crossing. This year (at the moment) the price will be £60.00 PER CAR return but I have spoken to them today and they anticipate that there will be a special deal announced sometime around Mid July. The cost for B & B at the hotel (with private car parking) is £25.00 per person per night with 50% reduction for a child sharing a room with 2 adults. I have enquired based on 10 cars and 20 people and have had good responses from 2 hotels (1 of which is prepared to reserve the whole car park for us only) and both within a few minutes of each other so I think we could consider 20 cars and 40 people if we look at both hotels. There is also a charge to get into Robin Hill Country Park which is on the website. I am gauging interest at the moment but would like to confirm reservations with the hotels asap so if you seriously are interested, please add your name to the list: 1. Mk2Jo - 1 car - 2 adults 2. Jimbob-Squarepants - 1 car - 1 adult .
Pipster007 Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 Thats a bugger. It's right in the middle of my shift I'll see if I can get the weekend off
Admin Vista Posted June 19, 2007 Admin Report Posted June 19, 2007 I might be interested Jo, but wouldn't want to get the ferry from Portsmouth I'd be looking at the Christchurch - Yarmouth crossing. I get married the weekend before and don't have time in my schedule for a honeymoon until Christmas, I might be able to sweet talk her into a weekend away and leave the RSOC show stuff in the small print
Wessie Posted June 19, 2007 Report Posted June 19, 2007 sounds like a great weekend, im supposed to be racing that meeting (last points meeting) so it depends how rockingham goes (the meeting before)
Admin Mk2Jo Posted June 19, 2007 Author Admin Report Posted June 19, 2007 Can you please add your names ONLY if you are deffo ... thanks Vista ... if you just want accomodation then I can book that and you can arrange your own ferry crossing if you like I would've thought that Southampton would have been a good place for you (closer than Christchurch?).

g5cos Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 FAO mk2jo Red funnel ferries will give same discount as last year on a day return, car and 4 is £31 50 but you will need to show an RSOC mem. card and quote RSOC club CRSC 01 when booking. This is a discount of 12% they say and i'm not sure if they will check mem. cards so its a question of try and see. Also if you incounter someone on the end of the phone that knows nothing about any discount the name to mention is Chris Weaver as she is the lady that has fixed this deal, as she did last year. We are still waiting for Wightlink to respond and as soon as they do i will let you know, and they normally give the discount to any car travelling to the show, not just RSOC members. Hope this helps, cheers Graham

Admin Mk2Jo Posted July 9, 2007 Author Admin Report Posted July 9, 2007 James ... may be easier for you to book it yourself and then you can choose your own time to travel
