hotrodholty Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 iv bought a 105e rear axle for my mk1 escort, is this a straight forward swap?
J_mk1 Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 hmm not exactly. i think you need to change the spring seat and damper locations or something....
Mr.Sumo Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 fraid not m8 The only Anglia axle that goes straight on a mk1 Escort is one from a Anglia van . to try and fit a saloon axle the spring hanger mounts are approx 1"- 1 1/2 " out of line , means you have to cut and shut the main axle casing......sorry to be the bearer of bad news
105Speed Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 Anglia saloon axle is 43" a van is 46" and a MkI Escort is 48" As Sumo says, the van one is the one you want and they are as rare as a rare thing in rare town eating steak.... medium rare !! You can make a saloon axle fit but it means you have to run wheels with loads of outset on them as there is no room for inset because of leaf spring Another casuallty of Pub Talk. The only good thing is there is a market for Anglia saloon axles amongst the boys who drag race so you shouldnt end up out of pocket.
Retromotorsport Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 to try and fit a saloon axle the spring hanger mounts are approx 1"- 1 1/2 " out of line , means you have to cut and shut the main axle casing......sorry to be the bearer of bad news NO... you dont cut and shut the case.. you cut the spring mounts off and fit some new ones from Rally design etc in the right place. But as Neil said.. the salloon ones are a bit short
Gareth Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 You can get away with long studs and spacers, but I'd recommend regular check if you're running big power and/or tracking/dragging your motor
hotrodholty Posted July 8, 2007 Author Report Posted July 8, 2007 ALL SOUNDS A BIT TO MUCH LIKE MESSING ROUND, I WAS ONLY GOING TO FIT THIS AXLE TO ACCOMODATE SOME WIDER REAR WHEELS, IF I KEEP THE STANDARD WIDTH AXLE WHAT ARE THE WIDEST WHEEL/TYRE COMBO I CAN GO FOR IN 13" AND 15" (15" AS I MAY FIT REAR DISCS ). THE ARCHES ARE STANDARD ALTHOUGH THEY COULD BE ROLLED AT THE LIP TO GAIN AN EXTRA 1/2 INCH OR SO. THANKS
