Ah.. 'The Great Lost Log Book Swindle'

This happened to me recently, I sent a log book back to have a couple of amendments made, engine size and colour and it never came back.

Contacted DVLA and the first thing they said was... 'Did you send it recorded delivery ?

To which I replied 'No.... Should I have ?

'Well if you could prove we received it we would send you a replacement log book free of charge but there is nothing to say we lost it, so thats £19 please'

And this got me thinking... what a scam that would be... just 'lose' 1% of the log books that pass through DVLA and think of the revenue that could be generated replacing 'lost' books

Call me paranoid but that is one cracking 'stealth tax' as no one will question 1% error.

But in short, you just apply for another log book with a form from the post office and send a cheque off for £19 and in no time you'll have a log book back.

Good point! Note to self always get proof of postage when sending a log book, this is free and that way if DVLA want £19 for a new logbook you can claim it back from Royal Mail
