Jarrodm Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 About 2 foot i s'pose......................... Jarrod [Edit] That was ment to be 2 minuites, it's a bit early for me.
Retromotorsport Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 You will save a bit quite a bit with the bonnet and boot .. also PolyCarb windows save a huge ammount. But as for the doors, if your using the car on the road keep them steel, you can get the steel ones really low in weight, theres a lot of metal that can come out of them. The fibreglass ones are really only for pure racecars, they crack everywhere, someone leans on the window and thats the bases gone, the tops pull out at speed too.. so it gets really noisy and draughty, and the outer skins can be blown off if your really shifting.
chris MK1 Posted July 3, 2007 Author Report Posted July 3, 2007 nice one, guys, i really am struggling to find how much the car weights, does neone no where i can look it up or neone know?
Pye Man Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Ithink they weigh somewhere in thr region of 965Kg. Im sure I have somthing at home with the weights in. If you could hang on till tonight I will source it for you. Defo under 1000Kg tho
Retromotorsport Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 To be honest its pointless asking anyone your cars weight.. its your car and if its the one in the pics its not a concourse model.. they are the only ones that will be close to the manaufacturers figs.. and some will be heavier..more paint, a replacement panel of different gauge etc.. Yours is modded.. so it will weigh different from standard. You need to weigh yours, ask at your local Royal Mail depot, they have weighbridges and may let you sneek on there. I could give you a figure from 680kg .. the lightest car i've seen weighed to over 1200kg for the heaviest i've seen weighed. Its a bit like asking how much pwer will my engine have.. its got this and that in it , that cam those carbs ... etc etc .. The only way of knowing what power its got is to measure it .. as a turn of the dizzy can gain or loose huge amounts of power. The most important thing when putting a car on a diet is to weigh what comes off and what goes back on, so you dont un-intentionally add weight. A light alloy bracket can sometimes be just as heavier as the smaller steel item. Same as Light Alloy Wheels.. they weigh more than steels, unless they are racing splitrims. I have a 14x16" split here with tyre and it weighs less than a Mondeo alloy 7x15 with tyre. Edit.... Oh and how much do you weigh? ... a 6 stone when soaking wet driver is better than 15 stone after taking a dump driver .. and normally loosing driver weight is cheaper ... unless you swap the driver for Gabrielle Tarquini .. who does weigh F*** all but costs a lot
Pye Man Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Fair point there Retro. Tarquini can keep his car in the air longer than wnyone Ive seen. There like jokeys nowadays.
Retromotorsport Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 I remember seeing hin in a BTCC Alfa ... looked like he had fallen through the floor, i'm sure he couldnt see the bumper of the car infront
Pye Man Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Seen him race for Honda. I think he could do with a booster seat as well.
Retromotorsport Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Jerry marshall (R.I.P) bucked the trend.. Dont know if its true but one engineer was suposed to have said .. " we cant get the car any lighter but if you lost a bit of weight we would probably be a few second quicker " Jerry's answer... " I've just won the bloody championship havnt i.. what do i need to loose weight for" I think this was when he won before the final few rounds had been run. Class driver, sorely missed
Pye Man Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Legendary driver. Ive heard that rumour before. Must say touring cars just aint the same IMO
Retromotorsport Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 If you want to see that old style racing again ... pop along to a round of the Dunlop Motoring News saloon championship.. The UK's premier Saloon Car Clubmans Championship with cars from 600bhp 4 wheel drive monsters through ex BTCC, Thundersaloons and DTM cars to classic saloons in all shapes and sizes. Never before has a mix of cars such as this fought so hard and cleanly for the title. From the youngster starting out in his own garage to the seasoned competitor with a pro-built car, cameraderie in the paddock is second to none. Competitors in the same class help out their rivals with problems, lending hands, tools and parts to try and get every car out on the grid. With battles throughout the field for the class wins it dosn't matter where you look on the track, there are cars dicing for position and their class lead. Famous names and cars battling with new names and cars at every corner on every lap. Ladies and Gentlemen, racing dosnt get much better than with the DMN. (taken from the BARC website.. and i can cos i wrote it ) It was voted the 3rd best championship last year in the MN poll behind the BTCC and FF championships, both of which have massive TV coverage, we beat all the single makes, Porsche, SEATS,Ford Saloons, BMW Minis, BMW saloonsetc and the established Formulas like FP's F3, Britsh GT's etc. It really is the Dogs Danglies
Pye Man Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Will have to check that out. It sounds right up my strasser! Loved the recitle Cheers Retro.
Rick Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 not sure fibreglass wings are any lighter than steel ones to be honest. but bonnet boot and doors should defo be lighter. id like a bit more metal round me though with some of the loons on the road these days
Fiesta Steve Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 I weighed my fibreglass bonnet, it was 5 kg lighter than the standard one. I never bothered to fit it 5kg = 1bhp on your power to weight ratio.
Guest MK1gaz Posted July 3, 2007 Report Posted July 3, 2007 Plus fiberglass panels normally look shit too ok for trackday / rally / race cars etc though . Most unlightened escorts weigh 850+ kilos and super stripped with fooooook all bolted to them ones can go down to about 700 odd kilos until you put a 14+ stone fat bloke inside
chris MK1 Posted July 4, 2007 Author Report Posted July 4, 2007 thank you very much for the answers guys. i wasnt after exact figures just a rough idea and just to mention its not actually the car pictured it is a new toy the one pictured is my first osf, once again thanks to you all cheers chris
