oliver Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Been away for a while after selling my mk1 and selling my 100e. Still have a mk1 fiesta tho and have an idea I fancy putting an engine in the back but i want to do it on the cheap just as a bit of fun track car. Needs to be powerful i.e turbo I have all the gear i.e welders metal etc. Whats involved and what engine box would be the best cheapest maybe volvo fwd or saab fwd or summit or would it be best to stick to ford i.e mondeo or summit. Im guessing i would use the engine gearbox driveshafts and uprights and just lock the hubs in place with tie bars?? any info would be great
Guest MK1gaz Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Check out my mate Chris Todd's mk1 fiesta in fast ford and performance ford magazine back issues . He's running a 350+ bhp surgercharged and turbocharged rs turbo engine and gearbox in the back . He's selling some of it soon as well as he's fitting a different engine to it ...........
john_3.0s Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 how about a transaxle set-up? mybe from a porka or something like that?
Davecara Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Pretty sure theres a Renault Van thats got a transaxle set up. Dont know which model though, should be able to handle some torque, might be worth looking at?
bomber1 Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Pretty sure theres a Renault Van thats got a transaxle set up. Dont know which model though, should be able to handle some torque, might be worth looking at? renault 4/6 had that set up. as to rwd rear engine in a fezza as gaz has said rst every things the right width ect and his m8 car is the nutz
Guest MK1gaz Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 The cheapest transaxles are renault 5 gordini ones ( less than £100 normally) and these are small 5 speed units but a bit weedy . Better ones are UN1 transaxles as found in renault 21 turbos , renault 25 + 30 V6's , alpine gta's , mid-engined 5 turbos ( you'll be lucky ) , renault traffic vans and various other lotus espirts , delorens etc . Good boxes these and will take 300+ bhp but they are bigger and cost more . Here's my 5 gordini turbo oldskool renault
Guest MK1gaz Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 Chris Todd's RS turbo rear engined mk1 fiesta pics . Top bloke as well
Gonzo Posted July 13, 2007 Report Posted July 13, 2007 what about the mk2 mr2 setup? using the turbo'd 3S-GTE engine? apparrently good for 250bhp at the wheels with some cheap mods... And you got jap overengineering to boot.
