I had a golf 150brake TDI, 235ft/lb of torque - stunning car, destroyed tyres & traction control/stabilty kept it honest.

Maintenance is a different story, Bosch injectors for the VW PD engine, £500 notes a go... Its as cheap to get a genuine recon engine than replace all 4 - the recon comes with them fitted....

 

Diesels are good & would suit some OSF, it depends on whether you want an engine that revs or not. But as already said its the amount of electronics required that makes them difficult to transplant.
