Gibson Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 ok here it is, 3 litre V6 TURBO. 24V complete with wiring harness and ECU's. covered less than 10K miles 177PS. 273 Ft/Lb oh and it will do 40mpg on a combined cycle and over 50mpg on the motorway... Did i mention it was a Vauxhall Diesel? they cost 9000 new but we are looking for a about a thousand for this one because it became waterlogged and will need a thorough clean inside.... so anyone fancy a super effiecent very powerfull engine in theyre large OSF?
Copey Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 i would say yes, but it would sound like a tractor, so no
V8ian Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 I have thought about the Diesel thing a few times, I suppose it is doable, I have my doubts as to how easy it would be, mainly down to the electronics inbuilt into modern the Diesel, It would be a complete electronics swop including the imobiliser system, unless you can buy aftermarket diesel ECUs, but I have not seen any that I am aware of, My choice would be the BMW 3.0/3.5 straight six, fitted into a Mk3 Zephyr estate, It may be easier to do a floorpan swop with a project like that, but what a tow car that would make,
Jelly Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 "Owning a Diesel is like being a homosexual; It's more accepted than it used to be, but it's still fcuking wrong."
hellblue Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 I do love a 24v, but a line has to be drawn some where
GT_Jim Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 diesel engine doesnt sound like a bad plan - the le mans audis are stupidly quick and arent to diesely sounding
Guest MK1gaz Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 "Owning a Diesel is like being a homosexual; It's more accepted than it used to be, but it's still fcuking wrong." Absolutley just pissed myself !!!!!!!!!!
Wessie Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 diesel engine doesnt sound like a bad plan - the le mans audis are stupidly quick and arent to diesely sounding but you cant run them on proper diesel theres so many additives and sh#t in that fuel its unbelievable
Gareth Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 "Owning a Diesel is like being a homosexual; It's more accepted than it used to be, but it's still fcuking wrong." PMSL

lee_capri Posted July 14, 2007 Report Posted July 14, 2007 diesel engine doesnt sound like a bad plan - the le mans audis are stupidly quick and arent to diesely sounding but you cant run them on proper diesel theres so many additives and sh#t in that fuel its unbelievable here do you think they will let me have some for my tdi landy as no could do with a bit of life in it. i think if your going to do diseal in a osf it should be something big like tranny or granny once say mk1 capri with 1.8tdi in it for sale dont get it
Jeff HPE Motorsport Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 No disrespect. "WHY":o Jeff Harris..
Admin Vista Posted July 15, 2007 Admin Report Posted July 15, 2007 No disrespect. "WHY":o Jeff Harris.. I'd say that was obvious, 170 odd brake, masses of torque and 50 odd mpg. I'd love to get that kind of combination out of my Pinto. Modern oil burners aren't the donkeys they were in the 80's or even the 90's for that matter.
4parajon Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 Ive been thinking about it as well for the van that I get but as has been said, its the electronics that put me off

Exactly.... this is a top of the range engine out of the latest model of vectra.... i drove the 1.9 4cyl version of this engine and was blown away by how good it was even in a car that ways 1.6 tonnes! and i HATE diesels with a passion so it must have been good. i would consider it in anything bigger than a capri with ease and look at all that King torque.... would go great in a mk1 tranny tow vehicle or beaver tail car puller or something!
mossy Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 in a modern car, diesel is the way forward, you get so much better gains and results compared to a petrol... I want a mk2 escort van....diesel engine for economy towing my mk2 race car..Rude!
Copey Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 the only diesel that would get near my capri would be a massivly big v8
Gibson Posted July 16, 2007 Author Report Posted July 16, 2007 or if anyone has blown up the one from theyre Signum/Vectra. this is a low mileage replacement? Offers considered!

I thought that this was OSF, not osf / vauxhall, diesel, original, i bet that with the power values, it will be a slug,as is often the case with these big engines into small car, it must go mentality.! If you want fuel econimy, then buy a late car, or a Smart car..!!
Jeff HPE Motorsport Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 Self confession, i`ve missed the point.. Jeff Harris..
James HPE Motorsport Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 Mixed views on this really! Dont really see the point in putting one in an OSF. After all the money it would cost to do the conversion would take you a long time to recoupe in saving on fuel consumption. Although I did love that mk1 van in Classic ford a while ago that had a late duratorq engine in it, that was the nuts!!!!
Stu_B Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 it's still gonna sound like a tractor..........
Gibson Posted July 17, 2007 Author Report Posted July 17, 2007 it's still gonna sound like a tractor.......... Sweet fook all you could do about that really.... but if in a Tranny then the sound would suit lol! plus people would be like "oh its an old shitty diesel transit...." "WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" as u tear them a new arsehole
Tripled-X Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 Fuel economy is not a phrase i'm familiar with !! It would be different though
Gonzo Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 I'd actually consider it an option if I didn't already have a toyota 4a-ge in the shed. and if I knew sambo wouldn't disown me as a friend.
