  1. Always late to the conversation but I'm in the same boat/garage/shed this year, my current thoughts are to try one of the storage bubbles that constantly draws air through in combination with a dehumidifier, I'm lucky that its a brick built garage & hopefully won't see big changes in temperature + I'm also putting those granule packs inside the car to try to catch any condensation. I do like the idea of those heaters.... In other years I had one of those Clark portable garages & used a good quality outdoor cover, the car did ok but some suspension bits & the gearbox casting picked up some orange spots, not the end of the world but it did show how much the temps did vary.
  2. That should work, I might look at that instead of the lump of plate on mine
  3. Here's a couple on/off the car although looking more closely when its on I suspect a towing strap would rub the front panel depending on the angle - it might need a rework! it's approx 4mm thick.
  4. I've got a metal plate that bolts through the bumper iron bolts but on the engine bay side, it looks like a DIY job from the previous owner. I can get a photo if you want as its off the car at the moment.
  5. Good news! I saw a load of ssl issues yesterday & received a holding page - figured it was part of the move
  6. Great photos, slightly annoying I didn't get there although there's another one in March and ouch! food is nearly a expensive as the ticket to get in!
  7. Cheers guys, I plan to be a bit more active on the forum generally as I always seem to come back to wanting a MK1 or MK2 Escort - I guess after owning/building/breaking 7 in 20 yrs I ought to know that by now! Yeah Savvi, plenty of bits both fast road/motorsport and standard, trim bits, glass, lights, wheels. spoilers, grilles, dash tops - quite shocking when you pull it all out of the various stashes. I would say pm me if you're on the look out for something in particular but that could open the flood gates!
  8. It's been a long time since my last visit to OSF so I thought I should to do the new boy introduction thing! I think I was last here about 2008/09 but sadly the GRP4 MK2 build had to be abandoned at a significant loss but I know it's whereabouts (Woking somewhere) I still fancy a MK1 escort Mex but realistically that could be a couple of years away. The other reason I'm back (and all the regulars hate you for it!) is to move on all of the MK2 Escort bits I've collected since the early 90's - I figured that as this was one best forums it makes sense to offer this stuff to the regulars via sales & the 'bay. It's an absolute mission to get it all together & I'm not even half way though the garage! It's frustrating to have sell up but realistically my health is not going to let me build another car Don't PM me yet if you're looking for something, I'll compile a list & have a chat with Posse etc on how best to put this stuff on! Cheers, Jay
  9. Check out this placing 3rd in events agains Mallock & Pilbeam single seaters..... big respect!
  10. For that money it'd have to be mint underneath with the right interior & an atmo YB or pukka pinto....
  11. anything between 1 & 1.5mm is fine, shouldn't need any bending either - I've one in the garage thats completely flat. Might be worth making up blanks for the gaps inside the rear quarters. Seal & rivet & you're good to go
  12. Bought mine in the states for $30 made by budge - elasticated, eyelits, shower proof, if you know someone going out there then get one http://www.budgecarcovers.com/Duro-Car-Cover.html
  13. Yep, there's got to be plenty of us in the s'arf to get enough numbers, maybe see if the TS boys n girls are up for it. I reckon a setup / shakedown / test day might be a decent idea too esp if we could convince some of the pro's to come along with their setup gear/wares...
  14. Don't fret gordy, you'll have a mate to play on the roundy roundy stuff next year! (if I ever an axle....)
  15. My old mans sprint car runs on unleaded with an octane booster to lift it to about 102, no problems at all. The big giveaway to a problem is the exhaust valve clearances closing up on a head without inserts
  16. Its not just breathing, a guy I used to know sprayed for the leccy board, his stomach became sensitised because of the thinners/fumes etc - affected badly what he could eat. Don't take any chances whether its rattle cans or propper kit - you may feel ok at the time but it will get you in the end.
  17. Bike carbs can work but not really worth the effort, if it has to be carbs then a pair of 40/45/48's is less hassle
  18. I've been thinking more about trying to secure the car or at least track it if it goes. Someone pointed out a unit from ebay (£50) that can be tracked by one of the mobile tracking services (www.followus.co.uk), the service is quite cheap to sign up for and doesn't cost much for each track. I started to think, why shell out £50? how many people have an old mobile sat in a drawer that you could lob in a pay as you go SIM, get a car charger and attach it permanently & wire it to a fused supply. Set the phone to silent etc then hide it away in the car somewhere... What do you reckon? I guess the flaw is in the abilities of the tracking company but I think the police use a similar method I might challenge the tracking company to test...
  19. As Orange Whizz said, if the brakes work correctly there shouldn't be an issue. If you do a right lash up when fitting it then you may fail. I have an electric line lock and a bias pedalbox, an MOT tester will have to be quite cute to spot it as all the pipework is inside the car tucked high on the bulkhead.
  20. There's a guy out west who tunes the nuts off the 1400 GM unit reports of 200bhp units I'll see if I can find the link. I ran a GpA spec 1300 Nova in the early 90's that made really good power and never broke - there's more people out there tuning GM 1400's than Ford 1400's. I have a sneaky suspicion that the Ford 1400 & 1600 units were completely different and didn't share too many parts From the Burton Website:- Zetec 16v Ford has given the ‘Zetec’ name to two different types of 16v engines. To confuse matters even more, Ford also badges some of their models as Zetec to denote that it is a sports version (usually with alloy wheels, sports suspension, spoilers, etc). A Zetec badged car therefore does not always have a Zetec engine under the bonnet! Zetec E - The original Zetec engine was fitted to Escort, Orion, Fiesta Mk3, Mondeo, Cougar and 1.8/2.0 Focus models. It has been produced in 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 litre capacities. All engines produced up to April 98 use hydraulic followers, those built from May 98 were redesigned using mechanical followers. The con rods and pistons were also significantly changed with the later engines using a longer rod with a shorter compression height piston. These later engines are fitted in 1.8/2.0 Focus, Cougar and late Mk2 Mondeo models. Zetec S - This is the baby Zetec as fitted to the post 95 Fiesta, Puma and 1.4/1.6 Focus models. It has been produced in 1.25, 1.4, 1.6 and 1.7 litre capacities. These engines bare no mechanical resemblance to the Zetec E engines. Most tuning parts are available only for the Zetec E engine. The following only refers to this engine. The 1.8 105PS engines are easily uprated to 130PS by using standard Ford parts from the 1.8 130PS engine. You will need the throttle housing, cams (or use the Kent FZ1802 cams) and the matching ECU. A power boost valve will eliminate the flat spot that is found between 3300 and 3500 rpm.
  21. Looks like a decent cheapish way of tracking, I've been considering security options for mine and apart from the usual electrical tricks and paying for a tracker I was stumped. Good find
  22. I used this stuff, almost the genuine Ford shade of blue http://www.frost.co.uk/item_Detail.asp? ... Name=dummy
  23. I used it on mine, it goes on well. I hoping it doesn't chip as bad as hamerite.
  24. Tricky one bud & it depends whether you fancy a change or not & how much you want to spend. Personally I would tidy yours up and see how you feel about it - it'll be worth more if its tidy. If you replace it you could be getting into the same bag again and probably pay over the odds.
  25. often found on Fiats, alfa, even the old pre injection MG Maestro - sadly not worth a huge amount
