FlashCadillac Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 anyone else ever bought a set of wheels taken them to be balanced and they have doubled the wight of the wheel with the amount of weights they have put on it is there anything you can do about this rather than having piles of wights on the inside of your wheel?
FlashCadillac Posted July 15, 2007 Author Report Posted July 15, 2007 so can it be the tyre as much as the wheel?
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 i got a wheel balanced last week and they didnt put one weight on it so he either forgot or it really didnt need one its on the front and it doesnt wobble and it hasnt fallen off because the wheels were that mucky he cleaned (on the other one ) where he put the weight never known not to need one before
negri Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 i would always get them balanced with the tyre on the rim . tyres can have high spots on them too not sure of any ways of correcting this with out the balancer except to make sure the rims are clean and free from any bumps or dents . try to make sure the wheel is symettrical
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 mine were with the tyres on the rims
jamesmk1 Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 90% of the time it is the tyre not the wheel. i get a lot of wheels that only need wight on one side it is just one of them things some want a lot and some don't. like i sad the best way around it to rotate the tyre on the wheel in till you get it to about 10g a side.
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 how do the stick on weights work then which only stick on the back of the wheel like mine they never put one on the front
jamesmk1 Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 stick on weigths go on from the back of the wheel but you still put to set's on one as close to the spokes as you can and one right on the back of the wheel .
jamesmk1 Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 if the shop that balanced your wheels spent that extra 30 sec'c on your wheel's you with not be able to see the wight of the out side as it would be behind one of the spokes.

peterbilt Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 Have you ever thought of putting more tyers on check your wheels for any buckle failing that must be tyers they say its the tyers they ballance not the wheel good luck
Burns Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 apparently landy wheels are particularly succeptable to this
jimbo Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 I'm having new front tyres next week. When I get them balanced, they should be doing it with the chrome dressing in place, yes?
Fiesta Steve Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 Most, not all, tyre fitters(no offence to any clued up tyre fitters ) are simply not bothered how many weights they stick on your wheels. I've seen a brand new wheel and tyre that hand two long strips stuck along side each other with a third stripe stuck on top !!! If it needs that amount of weight the tyre should have been rotated on the rim. But they fit so many tyres a day most just don't care. I had a tyre fitted once at Road Runners in Ashford. I wanted it fitted and balenced. When I got home I realised he'd fitted the tyre back to front. What a prat. I went back the next day and told him, he took the wheel off and swapped the tyre around and went to fit it back on. I said "aren't you going to balence it again" he said "I balenced it yesterday didn't I ?" What a complete plonker, I haven't been there since, lol. I also had an argument with a tyre fitter in the same place as he tried to tell me that the difference in profile between 205/50 & 215/55 was only 5mm and it won't notice. "Its 50 & 55 innit" he said. Its more like 3/4 of an inch !!
