scrouge2005 Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 is it easier to use cellulose or 2k when painting at home ...what will i get a better finish with ...what will i find is easier to get a decent finish with ...cheers!
Jay_harrier Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 cellulose is easier & less harmful but 2k is a better finish - but its all down to the prep, a dust free spray area and skills you have. I've done both & had better results with 2k - it was a metallic clear over base system too. Only downside is how toxic the stuff is. Dust is the real enemy though & be prepared to have to flatten, mop and polish to get a perfect finish.
petrolhead01 Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 if you decide to use 2k then you better hurry up and buy it because my supplier has already started to phase it out and convert over to water based which unless you are in a booth with the proper drying equipment is w a n k!!
xpackken Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 if you decide to use 2k then you better hurry up and buy it because my supplier has already started to phase it out and convert over to water based which unless you are in a booth with the proper drying equipment is w a n k!! no no mate thats not the case at all and alot of people get sooooooo confused its the basecoat paints that are becoming illegal to use because of solvent in them . we have been using waterbase now for a couple of years in oven and yeah its great if anything its better for blending etc . the laquer is 2k still and allways will be as they have not yet found any other way of making a waterbase laquer so you stil use 2k with waterbase coat . normal basecoat is not 2k anyway its got solvent init and this is what they are phasing out in place of the waterbase stuff . basically mate what im saying is its the solvents that is doing the enviorement no good . but 2k is still very harmfull . 2k is anything that you add hardener to. ie laquer 2k prime. if i was you mate use 2k . but buy solvent now before they phase it out because waterbase is a pain in the arse for drying time. and is alot harder to paint . _________________ Honda Ridgeline
