MattJ Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 Just dropped Mr Charlton an email at CF to see if i could get on to the 'Your Yard' section of CF. Seems to think it might be possible some time soon. Don't get me wrong, it's nothing like your cars but after Ford Fair and the prices of just spare parts I thought it would be good to show people that you can get in to classic fords on budget motoring and you don’t have to settle for a rust bucket! My motor cost £350 with 6 months test and tax and just needed a good wash. Hope we can show people what is possible and available out there. Matt
Miller Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 Good Idea! Theres some cracking examples of what money and determination can do out there as you say, but as prices for the favoured models go insane im finding more and more time for simple budget machines (possibly because my bank balence keeps going down). I was flicking through an old (1999) issue of classic ford today and the feature cars and attitude were much the same but the prices of the classifieds made me wince! T&T'd Mk1s 2 doors going for under a grand with the majority of RS stuff under £3000. There was even a Mk2 RS2000 I think with MOT for £900 (was a bit scruffy). Im glad that the attitude is the same as with some scenes (thinking VW) prices have risen and the scene has split into different sub genres and lost its way a bit. Old ford owners seem to have stayed the same and its great that people are still driving £10,000 cars like they stole them . This attitude is what makes OSF's so special in my eyes. Ive really enjoyed some recent mag features on 4 door escorts and fiestas and the other unsung lower cost machines and they are a massive source of inspiration. I hope the mags keep it up attracting more people to the OSF way who may not have big budgets and want catering too with these features, as well as teasing us mortals with some of those fantastic feature cars that seem out of our grasp. I really hope to see your car in CF soon, up with the new old skool! Hope that wasn't off topic, just my thoughts on why your car should be in the magazine.
orionmojo Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 yup. it really gets me down sometimes that i dont think i'll ever be able to afford my own old ford (the 'tina is mine, but i didn't pay for it) such features would be a good boost i'd say. on the other hand though it might get even more people with even more money into the scene and push prices up further . its hard to say.
MattJ Posted August 7, 2007 Author Report Posted August 7, 2007 Thanks guys, I appreciate you comments. I would be good to see because, after all, Fords were built with the masses in mind and sporting fords were for the people. Whether is goes in or not it's good to keep these cars on the road as every one is entertaining and imaginative. I take your point on the classifieds, about 4 years ago i turned down a 2 door escort, good shell, alloys, 1.6 engine, cage, few other bits, etc. only 10 miles from my home because I thought the 1200quid asking price was a bit high. Even if you can only afford a scrapper with 1 month test on it (i think we have all been there), buy it, enjoy it and you will never look back.
