Wessie Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 ok i was told that the capri struts would be a good replacement for my standard legs but they are too much work to fit. my anglia is going to be quite quick and i want it to handle well - but i dont want to spend too much money on struts etc as i am on a VERY tight budget. any recommendations will be greatly appreciated thanks tom
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 I guess it all depends on whether you want to retain the box or fit a front of the crossmember mounted rack. For ease of fitment go with the Mk2 Cortina struts, and/or get them modified for adjustables. I'm probably fitting a pair of two litre capri struts with adjustables to my Anglia project (cos I have a pair knocking around), but I'm fitting a rack and crossmember from an escort. This would place the engine two inches further back if I was using the engine mounts from the crossmember, but I'm fitting an XE and they mount to the chassis rails. edit: I've got a Zetec in my van and it handles well - It doesn't have a rack conversion, but has Milton modified Classic Capri struts and milton modified steering arms, so it's like a 'quick box' as opposed to a quick rack.
russ350lc Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 EVEN ON A BUDGET ITS WORTH SAVING UP FOR SUSPENSION PARTS FROM MILTON. IVE DRIVEN ALOT OF OTHER STRUT CONVERSIONS ON ANGLIAS AND NONE CAN HOLD A CANDLE TO MILTONS STUFF.
Doc Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 go on 105speed.com and get on their forum ...Its all you will ever need to know.

Wessie Posted October 17, 2006 Author Report Posted October 17, 2006 i'll give ya a ring m8 lol, i was strippin down my capri legs and i've been offered some bilstein inserts for them i just cant work out what to do with the top mounts can i buy bits to connect anglia strut top to capri struts cheers guys i no milton is good stuff but i really dont have the funds
CéDriC Posted October 17, 2006 Report Posted October 17, 2006 you have to take measurement from your struts and found the best way to fit them... Years ago, i've fitted Rover Sd1 insert + top mount (modded) on my anglia... With coil over kit from kevin wood (which sold me the set (i don't known RD at this time)...

105Speed Posted October 18, 2006 Report Posted October 18, 2006 Unless your parents live in a large garden shed from B&Q there will be no need to make them homeless. To have :- Fully adjustable front struts (ride height & damping) with adjustable TCA's, modified Steering Arms to put the speed back in the steering and improve lock to lock, some nice off set top mounts and springs Then for the rear have an adjustable pair of shocks with the turret kit and the A Frame kit to locate the axle TOTAL COST £1005 Now you will need to source a pair of MkII Cortina legs to be modified along with MkII Cortina steering arms and a pair of decent Anglia TCA's But that is the cost from Miltons for a basic set up. Now if you bought a car for £1000-1500 and then spent £1005 on it you would have a proper little car..... and I dont know about anyone else but to have a nicely sorted car for less that £2500 is a bargain in my book. Hope thats put it into perspective for you..... modifying cars is never cheap but when budget is tight it is important to buy the right bits and sometimes the best bits are worth waiting for.
Wessie Posted October 18, 2006 Author Report Posted October 18, 2006 thanks for that m8, basically its only a little project to put money in when i have it spare, i dont want to start spending big money on bits cos i have to go to uni next year . so far the whole project has cost me under £500, thats engine+box+bodyshell+fibreglass wings etc i know how important it is to have good suspension and for a car to handle well but i really dont have £1000 lying about. im just goin to get it driving atm and see if i like the engine etc. im just goin to have to make use of wot i've got dont worry tho in a couple of years i'll get the milton kit
